Semi-automatic transmission operation questions
Howdy. Friday, I am picking up a 2010 RT Ltd with the semi-automatic transmission.
Other than twist the throttle, how do I move the bike through the gears? What is the small lever on the left handlebar grip?
Thanks, just want to know how things work before I get to the bike.
Test message.

To start I would watch the RPMs, you want to keep it at least 4000rpm, your bike likes RPMs.
When you start going and hit 4-5000 rpm hit the + and it up shifts .
Again in when it hits 4-5000 rpm hit the + to up shift.
For now it will downshift on its own....saying you don't know how to downshift....
that is a starting lesson....you will get the hang of it and it will grow on you from there...
hope I got it right.

I gave minimums lol.

SE5 shifting.....imo
Upshift @ 5K+
Downshift manually @ 4K (no lower than 3700 or so. That will keep the centrifugal clutch locked).
Have fun

A 2010 Limited?
(They didn't make one that year...)
The advice on shifting is pretty darn good...
Keeping your engine at 3,500 rpm or better, will ensure that the clutch has fully locked-up, and your clutch plates are happy. (As in; NOT getting burned up!)
When I had my 2010; I would hit the upshift paddle at about 5,000 rpm; that would drop me back to about 4,000 in the next gear.
Use your index finger to downshift...
If you wanted to have more power for a pasing maneuver
Just to help with slowing down before a sharp curve or turn
Unlike the typical manual transmission; you don't need to back-off the throttle for any of your shifting. The engine management system handles that chore for you!

Perhaps something was missed. Doesn't your post say upshift between 4 & 5K?
Just asking, Snoop.

When shifting to a higher gear, do not let off of the throttle. If you do it confuses the computer. Remember to upshift at 4500 or higher rpms. The higher the revs the faster the shift. To downshift let off the throttle and use your index finger to shift to a lower gear.

There you go...!!
Once you start her up you will press tha + tab on the left hand bar. This will be first gear. Run up over 3,500 rpm's ( only fully engages at this range) then press the + again you are now in second gear....then third forth and fifth. As stated the engine/clutch sysytem will down shift automatically and you need not do it manually. But if you get comfortable and want to do it you use the index finger on the tab on the opposite side of the bar and come back down. There is a video and clear instuctions with the roadster...relax and enjoy...congrats and some pics are required...

He did say LTD, but maybe he's not sure.

Did you get the manual and CD with the bike? The CD has videos and is pretty nice and explains a lot on how to ride, shift, practice, etc. I highly reccomend it. Shifting is not the only thing you should know before you get on it!
