Front to Rear tire size ratio's

1st off I'm assuming that the wheel sensor disks are all the same size. The oem fronts are 21" tall and the oem rear is 23" tall. I know there are a few out there who have gone wild with tires, but am curious what size F/R combination you have.. Right now I have a set of 195/65/14 for the front and a 225/50/15 for the rear. They are both 24" tall I'm getting faults DPS/ABS.. OBTW, these are automotive tires.. If anyone has managed to complete this task I would appreciate a bit of info to head me in the right direction..

I believe he was refering to the original post that the tire is 24" tall mounted, where as the oem is only 21"..

The Spyder compares front and rear wheel rotational speeds to know to activate the traction control. When you change the front to rear ratio you upset the programmed parameters, and Miss Nanny gets a tummy ache. Your only option is to change the tire sizes to get the ratio back to a point that the VCM programming accepts. I don't think it has much leeway. You rear tire has to be bigger or your fronts smaller. There is really no workaround.

Thanks that really helped... I believe I can make all the tires work, just gotta go find a used tire to place on the rear before spending another butt-load on a new tire I can't use.. I can always use the 195's for the trailer..

But then regardless of the width, hight or tread pattern you will flatten it with your back tire...!!

Your first number is limited to your fender width not to much a problem but the second one is the hight which you should watch...

Try to find 175/55R15. There are many tire available in that size. It's only 0.4 in difference in width.

No, the second number is the aspect ratio, the percentage of the width that the section is tall. It is no a direct measurement.

I wouldn't venture a guess. There are too many variables in tire selection. Besides a size that will work with the nanny and fit inside the fenders, you have to consider speed rating, wet and dry traction, and ability to shed water to prevent hydroplaning. In addition you have to consider how things may change as the tire wears. The sidewall flex is important, too. Your best bet is to pick a tire with a size that is close to stock, then look at all the other factors involved. In regard to final fit only purchasing the tire and trying it, seeing it on another machine at an event like Spyderfest, or researching it here can tell the story. I can't tell it because I use OEM tires.
