Potentially. I don't know why it wouldn't work. Unless there is some relationship between sensed steering output and different outputs from the front wheel sensors that it would expect to see only in a turn.
I'm wondering also if one couldn't just remove the sensor but leave it plugged in??
What did the opening look like when you removed the sensor? Would the area need to be blocked off if we were to try to do some runs with an unmounted sensor?

If you guys fool with the SAS, don't forget that it is constantly compared to the steering torque sensor. I'm not sure if the front ABS sensors factor into it, but they might, or they might be integrated with the yaw sensor to detect wheel lifting. It may not be as simple as it seems.

If the sensor is removed from the steering shaft, it may not be wise to just let it be settled in the straight position. Maybe, to keep some input, the sensor could be relocated, and the mechanical rate changed from 1:1, to something less and have mechanical stops to limit what the computer sees as full steering lock angle. A flexible interconnect similar to a firm pair of rubber bands would allow the full lock travel of the steering with the sensor stopping well short of full lock.

I agree guys. I don't think totally eliminating any sensor input entirely is a good solution for long term.
Just need to give nanny a Valium so she will relax a bit.....

If steering and yaw sensors don't appear to be on the same page; she squawks...
If she got no signal from either; she'd get nervous...
But; if you could just get a constant input, for the signal that she expects when the bike is in gear, and just sitting still (as in traffic)??

Looking here at work at a angle sensor off a Chevy truck , the steering shaft of the column is flat on both sides and rounded on top and bottom. Half to look and see if maybe giving the hole where the shaft goes through maybe little clearance on the contact points , giving little movement in the shaft to sensor contact and several degrees before it actually engages the sensor . The trick is gonna half to be keeping the sensor centered and having a light spring tension to keep the sensor center until the shaft engages it

Can I put input here?
Oops, wait a minute...you guys sound like you know 10 times what I do on this subject!
Carry on.
Just keep me in the loop. Lol

DrewNJ, I can't remember exactly what it looked like. If I remember the end of the shaft had a little square magnet in it and it sat against the sensor. I tried to remove it but leave it plugged in and I got a code. I bolted it back on and have not messed with it.
It amazes me that BRP gave Nanny an adjustment on the 14's yet they won't make a software change to adjust the previous units. I would be willing to sign a release if they would create one.

You got a code with it removed but still plugged in? That sucks...wonder where it picked up that signal.
I have been back and forth with splitsec and they even verified with me looking at the wiring diagram, that both the SAS and YRS are indeed a CAN signal.
They even recommended rotating the YRS 90 degrees and either spacing the SAS off the shaft to give it a false input as an attempt.

ARGH. Pulled out in traffic today and needed to speed up fast...and VSS kicked me down so hard I thought the Spyder had actually cut off on me.

I knew it was either going to be you with a smartass comment toward Bob or Bob making a smartass comment telling me to slowdown as the first reply...

Can someone take their best photo skills and get a shot of the installed steering sensor?
Maybe it is viable to remote mount the sensor, and drive the left, right input at a reduced rate or gain. Say use a small cog pulley set. As an example a 20 tooth from the steering shaft to a 40 tooth sensor input.
Or maybe run it at the same ratio 40:40, but have one pulley on a slip nub with a centering spring. Build mechanical stops to let the pulley turn to lock, but stop the inner hub a set distance or degrees prior to full lock.

Are you talking about the sensor mounted at the very bottom of the steering column?
I can see some of it on my STS through the hole next to the right side suspension, not sure how clear I can get it....
