Motor will start in Reverse?
On two occasions now mine has stalled when put in reverse and by holding the brake, hit the starter, and it started right up.....still in reverse! Seemed smooth, no unusual noises.

The stalling? Did you give the bike a couple of seconds to clear it's throat, and get with the program?
I know they crank when left in first gear but jumps to Neutral as it starts. Never tried it with my previous '11 in reverse. But this '14 stayed in reverse as it started. Thats what suprised me.
Yes it was thoroughly warmed up.

Was your Spyder warm when this happened? This has happened to me a few times on the Test Spyder. It will stall after starting then when you restart it it is in gear, either first or reverse.
You should report it to your dealer, I don't think they are supposed to do this.

It was warm the second time. If it continues I let dealer know when it goes in for first service.

Not sure about the changes for the 14's but all previous SE's will start in any gear and after the engine starts the transmission is shifted to neutral. So the issue is that it did not shift into neutral not that it started.

I've had several of them do this (SE5), but it didn't seem abnormal. Like when I'm backing one into the shop and if it stalls, I'll quickly hold the start button and just tap the brake, apply throttle, and keep moving in reverse without having to select another gear, same with forward.
It might be a set amount of time programmed into the computer in between when it stalls or shuts off and when it is re-started that it stays in gear.
Just my two ¢

When shifting out of reverse; it's really easy to go straight into first gear,
The old ESSIEs didn't do that.
A quick stab at the manual said that a lighter and briefer tap on the paddle will put you into neutral...
I was being a bit too "hamfisted"!
Both my ESSIEs would shift from reverse to first if you held the floppy paddle. But there was a half second delay between gears. Do you mean that delay is gone?

Yup! It's going to take a VERY light touch, to only get back to neutral...

Every time that I shifted from reverse on the 2014 SE it would go directly to 1st gear. I thought that was what it is supposed to do.

Me too, and I like it that it goes into 1st so quickly, compared to my previous '11. Just another touch of refinement BRP has added.
Actually, never had a need to go from reverse to neutral.
