Thanks everyone, it truly is an honor to be called an American! I never knew Yankee was a dirty word! lol.. my apologies. My brother (Canadian) always calls me a Yankee and I always said.. "someday!"
When I started reading the constitution years ago I was amazed that the founding fathers had written such and incredible document over 200 Years ago! And in all that time there has only been 27 amendments which is also amazing. The constitution is as true today as it was when it was written in my opinion bit it is so much more. If you drive down any road in my neighborhood you will see flags flying proudly in peoples yards and I had never seen that to such an extent prior to moving here.
By the way... what is the secrete handshake? lol.....

The Yankee thing has to do with our Civil War. The northerners were Yankees and the southerners were Confederates.
The phrase Damn Yankees comes from a movie musical that came out in the late 50's or early 60's. It was a baseball musical about those Damn New York Yankees. Actually a pretty good movie.

It is kinda going out now, but the dam Yankee phrase was quite prevalent in the South when I was growing up and had nothing to do with a baseball team. I could get by with saying ain't but would get criticized if I didn't use the full term for those poor folks who were forced to live north of the Mason Dixon.

Good for you... Congrats and Welcome.
I was told that a Yankee came south to visit and a damn Yankee came south and stayed... I fall into the latter group and proud of it...

Hello fellow Yank...er Americans
In Canada and Great Britain all Americans are referred to as Yanks or Yankees. I believe it comes from the song "I am a Yankee Doodle Dandy". It is not considered derogatory, more like calling a Canadian a Canuck or some one from Britain a "Brit". The word "Damn" near proceeds it but I have heard it that way used in movies.
