Has anyone heard any good rumors regarding a future Spyder competitor coming to market? I can't believe the Japanese haven't jumped on it big time? It would be so good for us and the market in general. IMHO

There are..!!
there is a 250cc version floating around looking much like the spyder. There a lot of three wheelers croping up but none like the spyder. More in the closed car variety. So basically no one at the same level. Have to agree it is strange...!!

But why would they?
Do you think that this type of vehicle has a large-enough appeal, to offer enough sales?
Thats a good question of course. I'm right in the middle of the "Baby Boomers" years span. So there are many many more coming. Who knows Generation "x" and "y" are coming after us and by that time the Spyder will be more well known. It sounds like we will be seeing them on TV soon, some celeb will make them "Cool". Or course we think so already! If I was a competitor I think I would jump on it before BRP figures out how to market them better.

There are a lot of them out there and they never seem to get the piggy to market. I had a down payment on an Aptera and that went belly up. Elio is next. If they sell them for $6800 I will by two but that is not going to happen. More closely related to a Spyder is a Carver Fly-the-road with a leaning front end. I don't know where that one went. And then the one that did make it is Piagio but even that seems to be fading. And if you have a spare $60K you can a new version of the car that started it all-Morgan. They are back to importing them to the US.

Thanks those were interesting, not quite the open air experience, but interesting.

Honda is working on a reverse trike.

That one; while impressive, is not actually a Honda effort...

Arctic Cat has one in the works. Pictures on the Arctic Cat Wildcat forum. They're also a snowmobile company so maybe its just something they feel comfortable with. Hope they don't nanny it up like the Can Am.

I am thinking that serious competition from any of the big motorcycle manufacturers is far off. At first, I thought they would jump on it and give BRP a run for their money.
Four years down the line, I am thinking they are just sitting back and watching this phenomonen. The issues with 2013 and the introduction of a new engined version in 2014 seem to strengthen the argument--IMO. It was also my guess that any competition would have a bigger engine from the start. BRP has now stolen their thunder.
Total sales numbers of the product () seem to be in the sub 50,000 numbers. This is mostly a market for people over 50. The $ investment required may just not be worth it.
Time will tell.

I'm not sure I believe that Roger. Are you saying that the Spyder wouldn't be safe to ride without the nanny? Wouldn't you think that the 2f, 1r configuration would be safer than the 1f, 2r configuration? Why don't we see the TriGlide nannyied up? Its factory built and it doesn't seem HD is too worried about it. Truthfully I'd be surprised if Arctic Cat actually brought this out. It's cool lookin but I probably wouldn't be interested in it if they didn't have a touring version.
