    Default Calsci Windshield

A few pics were requested, so here they are. I really love the smooth air and ride of the Calsci. Mine is the medium extra wide. I am 5-8 and ride 90% of the time with it in the lowest position. Best wind protection I've ever had on a GS or now the STS

Thanks so much for the pictures. Although tonight I will be placing my order for one of them. If it works as good as the one on our RT Limited then I will be one happy camper and Spyder Ryder.

Default new CalSci shop modified windshield

I went to CalSci with my 2013 ST-S. They measured with me sitting in riding position, then took what they call the ST Medium XW and cut a couple inches off the top. I am 5'9" tall, and like to look over the windshield when riding. I rode 100 miles yesterday evening with temperatures gradually dropping into mid 50's. This is by far the best shield I have had on any bike! No turbulence, no buffeting, no back pressure, just a little smooth airflow. Even at 85 mph on the freeway it was quiet! With this shield I can ride with it all the way down and receive good airflow for hot days, or move it up one notch for cooler weather, or even a couple notches for rain (although then I would be looking through the top).

May I ask why you folks decided to replace the stock WS with the aftermarket one? There must be a reason. Care to share your reasons?
    Thanks.

    Default calsci windshield

I dont understand the big windshild thing, i have a 2012 rt limited i keep the windshiels low looking 2" over the top. i had harleys for years and had the shortest windshield, you are to look over the windshield not through it.

I've almost always replaced the stock windshield on both my Spyders and our sleds. Main reason is that the stock shields let too much cold and wind at you. They are always too small for me, seems they (manufacturers) know it's a way to get some more dollars out of you.

For me, the stock windshield was good around town or easy rides. But, over 55 mph or so, there was too much turbulance and buffeting. The sharp recurve at the top of the stock shield contributes to turbulance at higher speeds. There was also a little too much buffeting from air coming in from the sides. The wider CalSci shield solves both issues. Note that I had the shield cut shorter so I could look over the top; I do not like looking through the windshield.

I replaced stock shield to reduce the buffeting and turbulence when traveling on long trips......reduces the wind on you and you can travel further.....but....the calsci and my handlebars are touching and hindering my turns in twisties....Mark is going to cut it down a little...change the angle some and shorten top also.....the stock shield also had a wave near the top that caused distortion in curves.....I do look over the shield...love the calsci

Just received my Calsci windshield to fit my 2010 RTS SE5 and I'm looking for tips/tricks installing. I read somewhere that using paper under the chrome outer covers prevents scratches when installing. Can anybody help???

    Default Changing the Spyder shield.....

You will save yourself the grief of damaging your shield by placing a playing card under the tip of the chrome bezel BEFORE pulling the top out and sliding it down......NO SCRATCH! Works well to have two bodies if you have not done it before, especially when lining up the new shield.....

Thanks for the tips, took me about 10 mins to change with no scratches on either screen. Now to test ride and hopefully enjoy a smoother ride.
