Always bad to hear when anyone gets caught up in an accident, especially
a youngster. Please kindly give them both my best wishes from a UK Ryder.
EDIT: You really have to ride like all the other road users are out to get you
whether you're in Europe or the 'States or anywhere else in the world.

Accidents Happen
Accidents happen when we least expect them. I have never known anyone get up in the morning and say, "I think when I go for a ride today and have an accident." My spouse and I just finished one of those AARP Driving Courses this week. Left turns and distracted driving was their areas of concern this year. The three second driving interval was next on the agenda.
Ride Safe and remember you are invisible !
