    Default 2014's Coming

So the dealers get to see the 2014's on September 14. What do you think will be announced (besides colors being shifted between models).

    Let the speculation begin.......

I have previously stated that I am guessing some new colors. Also, some possible body design changes (per the video that was shown in earlier thread).

With all the difficulty on the 2013 ST's, I am thinking that they will not be introducing to much along the way of bigger and better. This is my way of saying probably not the bigger engine that many of us have been discussing for about three years now.

All speculation on my part. I have a 50% chance of being right/wrong I guess.

I have a feeling that the announcement will hit SL precisely when BRP says it will be okay. I am hoping we do not get into a lot of pre-hype this go around, it did not seem to bode well for the 2013 model year.

Some better ventilation if the teaser pics are correct looks to be some extra vent holes in the front. I have also heard a 3 cylinder in the RT's.

    Default Hard to say..!!

like volkswagen and mini's they claim 47 changes and all you notice is different rim's and colors. Hopefully they get all the issues solved on the past models. I myself am very happy with what they have now.

If you ride a Spyder correctly you move into fifth gear around 65-70 mph when the Rotax is in the lower end of it's optimum power band. If you had a sixth gear you would be upshifting at 85-90 mph and that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I rarely use fifth gear unless we are running in a 70-75 speed limit zone and my fuel mileage runs around 31-33 mpg. If the Rotax is lugged down under 4,000 rpm you will find it uses more fuel than if you run it in the rpm range where it is most comfortable and performs best.

A Spyder is not like most bikes.

Sorry , but you are forgetting that if you add a 6th gear it would lower the gear ratio and the Spyders sweet spot would no longer be in the 5000 RPM range, it would be lower. With that said, it would in fact save fuel if a 6th gear was added because your motor would now spin at less RPM's in it's sweet spot. Class dismissed !!!!

Okay, but you would then be changing the gear ratios all down the line instead of just adding a sixth gear. Would this added gear be the new 1:1? My understanding is that the optimum power band on the Rotax is between 4,800 and 6,000 rpm where it makes the most horsepower and torque... I think the torque begins to fall off earlier than 6,000 but the horsepower is still climbing. Reducing the RPM takes the engine away from it's sweet spot regardless of what gear you are in.

Don't dismiss my class though, because I still need to learn more. Anyone have anything to add to this... Scotty????

By the way, I am sorry we hijacked this thread.

The only issue I've had with our 2013 is with the Heim Joint - which broke. Is there a summary of other issues that I should be looking out for? We're at about the 2000 mile mark and everything is running great right now.

    Default 2013RTS

We have a 2013RTS we now have 8200 trouble free miles on it.I was in 5th gear last night for the first time in a long time.We were on the free way running 75 mph.I never shift into 5th under 70mph.Why do I need a 6th gear?I love this bike,Its like driving a sports car.I often wonder if the folks that are knocking the 2013s own one or are just repeating what they read here.I can find nothing wrong with my 2013.Its a great bike.
