SE-5 shift problem
Got left stranded today when my Spyder (SE-5) would not shift. The mechanism would not kick back so that you could shift to the next gear. After shutting down the bike I tried to restart, and because it was in gear I put foot on the brake and it went down to neutral. After that it would not shift up or down. Anyone else ever experience this problem or know how to fix it. I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

Look underneath the left side and see if the shift linkage came loose. Also check your oil level.

I was having a similar problem with my old ryde which was a 10' RS-S SE5.
When it would lock in gear while underway I would stop, shutdown and attempt to start in neutral using the brake with no luck.
Even though they did not show any sign that they were loose or heat shifted I could get going again by pulling MAIN 1&2 relays and reinserting them.
Then it would shift again for awhile.

Oil level is good, just had it changed not long ago. Also linkage was tight. Had to take linkage off to push rod in so that I could get into first gear. The rod does not go back into the mechanism. Had to drive about thirty miles in first gear to get home.

I know this is going to sound really lame, but did you ensure that the shift paddle was tight? There is a screw connecting it to the handlebar, and if it becomes loose it will allow some 'play' in the paddle, and cause major issues when shifting.

Same Problem
I had the same problem with my 2011 RT, turned out a nut came off the shift linkage.
