Hey guys, helping a friend purchase a used 2012 RT. How can you tell if the new larger oil filter has been installed?
Thanks for all your expertise !

New Larger Oil Filter Question
Hello pslawing - As Rattigan_Roger said, if the new longer filter has been installed there "SHOULD" be a sticker located on the oil tank now.
However I will tell you from my experience, thats not always true. I just changed the oil today in my wife's 2010 RT-S for her 4600mi service thinking the same thing since the 600mi service had been performed by the dealer. When I started and got the panel off.. there was no sticker, so I started wondering when they had started with the new longer filters and wasn't sure. Anyway, long story short it wasn't until I got everything apart and removed the filter that I realized that in fact it did have the new longer filter installed, but the dealer technician had failed to put the sticker on the tank.
The only thing I can tell you, if your good at noticing the height of the filter cap.. it is taller. the orginal cap is just over 1" tall and the longer filter cap is around 1 3/8" tall. So, if no sticker is on the tank.. look at the filter cap. Hope that helps.

Just for clarification, when doing oil change should a larger one be put on?

Unless you use BajaRon's HiFlo filters, you have no choice. BRP doesn't sell the short ones anymore. Using both new filters extends the oil change interval...with BRP's blessing.

OIL CHANGE
The new revised change is for 7500km/4600mi after the initial break-in of 1000km/600mi.
Previously it was 5000km/3000mi.

Yes. But to be clear. The longer filter they are talking about is the transmission filter on the SE machines. The engine oil filters are dimensionally unchanged for all models.

That is correct. There is no way to determine externally which engine oil filter is installed.

Now if I can just find somebody with one of the old left side grilles that has been replaced during all of this...
