    Default anti-virus program for pc's and mac's

For about 4 years I've had bitdefender and each year you pay a renewal and get an upgrade, typically $49.95; sometimes there's a special. Does anyone use an anti-virus software that you pay one price and get free updates and can continue to use it year to year?

Although I don't own it, I here good things about Vipre...... Lifetime with no renewal fees.

FYI.......I don't think it will work for Macs.

Bitdefender also has a lifetime version as well if your happy with thier performance since you already have owned that product.

You can use Microsoft Security Essentials for the PC......it is free and does about as good as other software.

    Default AVAST AntiVirus

I have been using AVAST for many years on several computers with no charges at all. It is one of the top-rated Virus protection packages plus it has about the lowest overhead of any package I have used.

I recently acquired a new Lenovo Yoga 13 and it included McAfee which I promptly deleted and installed AVAST.

I use NIS '13 (upgraded from NIS '12). Yes, I paid for it and the upgrade....................a couple of the free antivirus suites are pretty good; in the end though; you get what you pay for....................or don't.

I use Vipre. So far so good. No problems here, and no yearly fees. Lifetime upgrades.

+1. Have it installed on home and work laptops and it works just fine. You really do not need a virus protection on the Mac products; I have regular desktops and 2 iMac laptops and no anti-virus on them. Never had any issues.

And if not, MS Security Essentials is not bad.

    Cool Viper

Vipre by GFI Software works quite well. They had been based out of St Petersburg FL until the original company Sunbelt Software merged with them. I have been a beta tester with them for 10 years. I run it on a net book, laptop, and two desktops. Definition updates daily, software updates as needed automatic download unless you turn it off. Includes a firewall that is also impenetrable by most hackers.
