Default Is a 2013 RSS worth $2000 More

I have been finding 2012 rss se5 leftovers around 17K and the 2013 RSS SE5 19K . Just wondering if the changes made for the 2013 is worth the extra money. I know its a personal decision but I was wondering because I know a lot of members have experience with both bikes. Thanks for the feedback

    Default Depends..!

worth it to who..?? Some have chimed in and mentioned they were happier with the 12. My opinion doesn't count here we have a 12 RS but I'm sure some who have moved up will let you know soon..!!

    Thumbs up

I love my 2012 RS-S and there is no but to it...however, the cruise control on the 2013 RS-S is a winner. Without the cruise control feature I say save a few thousand and get the 2012...Opinion only.

    New suspension...
    New frame...
    Bigger and better brakes...
    Better vibration damping...
    New 15" wheels...
Throttle by wire now allows for electronic cruise control...

What; if anything, is all of this worth to YOU?

that's what I was thinking. I have spoken to a few of the preferred dealers and they aren't willing to budge much on the 2013's and since I am in new jersey they know there are only a few months of good riding. I am finding good deals advertised on the 12's and I am sure I can probably get it for 17 k out the door. Thanks for the feedback and I have every intention of seeing some of you on the road really soon. Ride safe

Slap a Bajabar on a 2012 with the factory fox shocks and suspention would be nearly even
What was wrong with the old frame ????
Nothing wrong with 2012 style brakes, they stop very quickly. The change IMO is strictly for marketing.
1" bigger wheels with a lower profile tires ===== rougher ride
Throttle by wire has been a huge headache in past model spyders. Cable is way more dependable.
The 2013 RS has less hp and still has reported handling issues.
The 2k extra for a 2013 after interest on the loan, higher taxes and higher value insurance coverage will end up costing a heck of alot more than 2k.

So no, it would not be worth 2k to me, although I do like the new fenders.

    You didn't miss anything...
    Randy missed on that one.
The engines are identical in their bore and stroke dimensions.
The old 990 series engine had 106 horsepower, and about 77 pound/feet of torque
This one has been in the GS/RS series from the start
They brought out the 991 series engine in 2010 for the RTs...
    100 horsepower and 80 pound/feet of torque
    BUT...
it was tuned to lower the powerband's maximum output ratings by about 750 to 1000 rpm
So you get more power quicker!

Are they? Or is that BRP "adjusting" their specifications to more accurately reflect what the real story is?

We need to get a couple of bone-stock bikes to weigh; a 2013, and a prior model...

It wasn't worth it to me personally. I bought my 2012 rss se5 instead. I was at 17, 600 out the door. So pretty close to the 17k your thinking. My sales tax here is 7%. (For your reference) That also includes extending my warranty out to the full five years. That was the deal maker for me I could save quite a bit and spend some of that savings on a better warranty and had a head start on money for farkles.

If I could get one all in for that price it would be a done deal. So far the best is a 13 rss for 18k plus tax and a 12 rss for 17 plus tax .

Says it all. The only things I wish I had from a '13 are the cruise control and updated dash board.

I just read all this to my husband and he agrees that the 2013 with the cruise would be worth the extra $2,000 to us. We added a cruise to our two 2012 RS 's and could not have made it to Spyder Fest in MO from far northern CA without it...but our cruises are kind of hokey compared to the 2013. Still, we do love our Spyders and probably wouldn't have been able to buy them outright without the $2,000 less at that time (compared to the 2013).
