Thanks for the heads up on Florida.... too bad all the states can't get together on some of this stuff.
Virginia is an open carry state, no permit needed. We also do not have a castle law, if someone is threatening me I must back away and attempt to get out of situation before drawing my gun. If I get cornered, I must give one last warning "I have a gun and will use it if you continue." Then and only then am I allowed to defend myself or the kids. That is why our safe room is the bathroom, it is point furtherest from the front door. I will always know where the kids are, because they are laying down behind me in the tub. I choose to get my conceal carry because there is no reason for a stranger to know that I have a gun. It is for the protect of myself and my girls.

    I know the laws.

The Supreme Court has given Illinois until the end of this month (I believe) to re-write their gun laws. At present IL remains a state you do not want to "carry" in. There are ways they can amend the laws to fit the SC's requirements, so it is not expected to make any positive impact on carry-laws within the state (as far as allowing it). There are grass-root efforts to push for carry-laws throughout the state that are gaining-ground in some areas... but it remains an up-hill battle.

Regarding Chicago... no law changed there. In fact, the anti-gun "push" is stronger than ever by politicians. Chicago has a zero-tolerance for gun possession in the city limits. Basically... don't even carry a gun broken-down within its city limits unless you want to spend your vacation in Cook County jail. While I think it is nuts, and the policies of these politicians is failing miserably... they keep pushing for stiffer penalties -- and so far seem unopposed. The city of Chicago has gone as far as not allowing pensions or city employee retirement plans to invest in gun-companies in their plans. So every mutual-fund has to be screened to make sure they don't have stock in Ruger, S&W, and etc... LOL! Crazy...

Bytemi..... to your point about someone breaking into your home.

This is a post I made back in January about an incident that happened less than a mile away from my house here in Georgia. The guy she shot recovered and was sentenced yesterday to ten years in jail and five years probation. Unfortunately he will require constant medical assistance due to the damage on his internal organs.

Yeah I read that story when it happened. Momma Bears are very protective of their cubs. You are going to have to get through me to get to them.

I go to the range as often as I can, I enjoy shooting and it helps me feel more comfortable with the gun.

Carrying doesn't mean that you're living in fear. Carrying means that you're prepared for any reason that you might need it but hopefully you never will need it.

NC has the Castle law. It has been tested several times and so far no homeowner who had to shoot an invader has been charged. There have been a few home invasions in the county we live in. Two within a few miles of our house. In one a 14 year old was killed by the homeowner and the other perp ran. There was a time of outrage by certain members of the community over that case, but it didn't last long.

    This is from Missouri website,

    Places off-limits when carrying:
    1. Any police, sheriff, or highway patrol office or station
    2. Within twenty-five feet of any polling place on any election day
    3. Any correctional facility
    4. Any courthouse or building used by a court
    5. Any government meeting including state legislature
    6. Government owned buildings except public housing
    7. Bars. (except owners)
    8. Secured parts of airports (Federal)
    9. Prohibited by federal law
    10. All Schools (including colleges)
    11. Child care facilities
    12. Casinos
    13. Amusement parks
    14. Any church
    15. Private property with 11X14 sign with one inch letters
    16. Arenas and stadiums seating over 5,000

    17. Publicly accessible hospitals

    18 Bus – Public Transportation*
Note this is a felony under Missouri law. Others listed above will only result in a warning or tresspass violation but a bus carry will result in more serious consequences.
Carrying of a concealed firearm in a location specified in subdivisions 1) to (17) of subsection 20 of this section by any individual who holds concealed carry endorsement issued pursuant to this section shall not be a criminal act but may subject the person to denial to the premises or removal from the premises.
If you refuse to leave after being asked and the police are called, you will be fined $100. Second such offense in 6 months is $200 fine and suspension of permit. Third offense in 12 months is $500 fine and loss of permit for 3 years.
    Alcohol and Drugs:
Waiting For Information. As always, alcohol/drugs don’t mix with firearms. That’s a pretty simple rule of thumb.

    Deadly Force / Castle Doctrine:
Missouri is a Castle Doctrine state and has a stand-your-ground law.

    Open Carry:
Unrestricted under state law; some local regulation on loaded carry is possible.

Here is a link I check out at least once a month. It shows which states honor the Florida CCW. http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/new...led_carry.html

I would guess that your state has something like this also.

That would insinuate that those who carry live in fear. I'd rather say they are prepared for something that will hopefully never happen.

Using the logic that to not carry is to never run into a need would be like saying "I never carry a tire repair kit, or compressor because I never expect to have a flat."

For gun owners / carriers, the gun is no more than a tool in the tool box for travel. You hope you never have to break out the tools, but you also want the right tool for the job at hand...

This wasn't meant to stir any pot, so keep the temp at a simmer... I don't yet own a firearm, and if I did own one, I'm not sure I'd carry. It's a huge responsibility that I'd have to get comfortable with first.

Open carry is legal in Alabama... and absolutely no one tailgates you when you have a Ruger Mini 14 slung across your back (I only do this when headed to the range). As for carrying a pistol while riding... no comment. On a side note, if you mount a holster on your Spyder, it really discourages people from sitting on or tampering with your bike.
