RPM's Racing on 2010 RT SE-5
Recently, I was on the interstate doing about 70 mph and the RPM's were right around 5000 when all of a sudden, it jumped to about 6500 and the engine check light came on. I backed out of throttle and everything returned to normal but it kept happening and seemed to occur more under a heavier load (going uphill). When I got home, I checked oil and it was low so I added oil. Then I took it out again and as I was going thru the gears, the RPM's would jump up and it was almost like it was out of gear.
Any ideas?

RPM increasing under load.. pay attention to the gear, is it downshifting or just accelerating?

Time to go to the shop. Sounds a lot like the clutch is slipping, but there could be other causes. A vacuum leak could account for the rpm and the check engine light. Without and active fault code we can't comment much further.

There was no changing of the gears; the RPM's just jumped. When the RPM's jumped, the bike wasn't accelerating; I think I would have to agree it's time to go to the shop.
Thanks everyone for the input and advice.
