From what I understand is you have to go to the BRP Can-Am School. It is something I have been thinking about doing.

I'm going to be going in August, but I have a dealer backing me (Pitbull Powersports in Springfield, MO) and will be working for them after I move there in August. I know you have to get the account set up to take a 30 hour online course and then a week of hands on in Canada. as for the details of who to contact, you'll have to ask someone else.
    RS - 55K+ miles, F3 - 200 miles and counting.

The hands-on tech school should be in Wausau, WI, unless they have started to offer it at additional locations.

I think this would have to be on the list as the greatest job in the world.

I would love to be a spyder mechanic

    Just sayin'............
Three in the garage, and I think I can fit at least one more in.....and then we will have to build another garage.
The roads in NY are so bad that I am glad we bought a Ryker Rally

I think there are 3 locations for the tech school, Atlanta GA, Wausau WI, and Sherbrooke CA. Chances are he'll be going to the one in Wausau.

Can anyone take the thirty hour online course, if they pay for it or do you have to have a dealer sponsor? It might be cost effective for some who do a lot of their own maintenance.

You have to be a dealer. I had the lifetime opportunity of going to the school in WI but I was not certified and it was an special arrangement so I could write a blog about what the Spyder techs go through.

It really is too bad it's not available to someone willing to put the time and money into it. I'd love to know more about the ins and outs of the Spyder and what does what. I don't think I've met a more intimidating machine and it really shouldn't be. I thought my cars were bad! The Spyder looks like either of my cars shrunk with a ray gun.

How long was the actual "Hands On" part of the certification program?
Does BRP offer an "advance course" after completion of the basic course?

This was the advanced course and I think it was three days, maybe four, can't remember. Basic course is taken online.

Great write ups I am envious it sounds like a great opportunity even if you didn't certify.

Sounds like an opportunity for a dealer to make a little profit by offering their "Sponsorship" by adding a "sponsorship fee".....just sayin. . They do offer an "extended manufacture's warranty" so why not this?? Silly thing is, why doesn't BRP directly offer the online program to the buyers of their product?

    Unhappy Training

Dealers probaably object to BRP doing this as it would cut into their business.

    Not sure I agree.
Owners can already buy the Maintenance Manual from their Dealer (and online as well) but what owners do not have access to is BUDS. Any "online" course can never take the place of actual hands on instruction. What it can do is help a mechanically inclined owner to better understand their hi-tech vehicle.

Hey BRP, What's wrong with offering to educate the owners who purchase your product about how your product operates?
