    Default Weird Weather for Alaska

With all the storms happening in the eastern US and more predicted, we have also been having "weird" weather.

Yesterday and today, we have experienced temps in the 40's (ABOVE). It was 47 and very windy yesterday. Warm winds coming in from the South Pacific. Today it is 42 above.

Half of the snow has melted in my yard and my driveway is almost down to the gravel. I have been in AK since 2001 and this is the warmest spell I have ever seen in December. It should be hovering around zero or slightly below for the next couple weeks.

No, I am not going to take the Spyders out for a ride--I don't like hitting those icy spots that occur along with this type of weather.

Hoping that all of you who are experiencing the really bad storms get some reprieve soon.

Normal here, 20's and 30's, With 3 inches of snow on the ground,
Still riding every day. Just takes a little longer to dress for the ride.

So you brought cold weather to Las Vegas and you took warm weather back to Alaska.

Right now I'm in northern Ohio. We have 12" of snow on the ground and it is certainly much colder than it is in Chugiak, AK!

Upon looking back--it does appear that we did exactly the above.

I lived in Alaska for 23 years and it always seemed like the weather warmed up in Alaska during the winter when the weather was bad in the lower 48!

We had our first freeze last night - but my son and I went for a ride on Friday and hit snow at 1,000 feet. Even with the warmth, we have almost doubled our "Normal annual rainfall" for the rain YEAR, which starts in October…..

Bob: Yeah, the temperatures were right on the money. Today, its about 34 above at noon.

RE: Summer: Our summers have been on the cool side. I don't believe we reached 70 more than three times the whole summer last year. July is usually the warmest month. June and August can be mid 50's to mid 60's--but August will take you to some 40's also towards the end of the month. Leaves are turning in late August and usually down by mid September in our area.

North in the Fairbanks area--they sometimes reach up to a hundred degrees in July.

The past is no guarantee of how it will be in summer 2013 though.

I will look forward to meeting you folks next summer.
