    Default Key Mod

While some of you guys are figuring out how to put alarms on your Spyder I'm figuring out how to leave my key in the Spyder. ;D

The idea is not to put it in your pockets. I keep my spare in my wallet and if I want to remove this key I'll just throw it in the trunk and use my spare to get it out.

    OK,
Why would you want to do that? I don't understand.

You do alot of things that makes sense but this just seems like a "'cause I can" type mod.

Can you still open the trunk and seat?

Yes I can still open my trunk and seat. As a matter of fact I put a rubber gasket in so now I can push and turn and it will stay turned so that you don't have to hold the key to open the trunk or the seat.

I've done some sort of key mod on every bike I've owned and most folks think it's pretty cool when they see it.

This is the mod I have on my 109.

How about this... A key mod that is a key yet looks like an empty ignition. Talk about fooling everyone 8)

    Just sayin....

How did you secure the key to the cap?

I also got tired of holding the key down while opening the trunk so I just screwed in the latching bolt on the trunk a few turns to compress the trunk's gasket a little more. Loosen the lock nut, turn the latching bolt and re-tighten the lock nut - simple. Now the lid springs up just enough to stay unlatched when I push and turn the key. An added advantage is that it will seal even better now.

I did that too when I first got my Spyder but after a few months, I think the trunk weather seal has lost a little elasticity and trunk is back to two hand operation again. Instead of screwing the latch in a little bit more and further compressing the trunk weather seal, I am thinking about doing the spring over the latch pin mod.

so is there a part number/model number for this billet oil cap?

What does the back look like?

I know you JB welded the key in place. I was just looking to see how you put it all together (with reference pics).
