Default I need some REALLY good advice...

Last weekend has the appearance of being a VERY expensive one...
The Missus was out chewing up the leaves in the yard with the mower (while I kept track of the football games. ),. The mower quits, so she tells me that it needs fuel. (She never checks on the fuel in it until she's sure that it's empty and sitting in a very remote place...
So I dump about a quart of fuel in it and realize that this isn't how the dance is supposed to go...
The starter clicks; but nothing spins. I hook it to the battery charger for a good long drink of electrons... same thing the next morning...
    Now it's on!
I pull the housing off from around the engine and find about the biggest mouse nest I've ever seen! This thing had room for a large dog in it!
So I clean that out, hit the starter a few more times just to see what I already knew...
Either the starter, or the engine, is locked up tight!
It's 29 years old, and has about a zillion hours on it...
If I need to buy a new tractor... It'll cost probably 2 grand for a halfway decent one for our yard.
    Here's the problem....
I want to sell a rare and pretty darn expensive recurve bow: an original Brackenbury signed by Jim. It's even got a spare set of limbs with it.
    Now... Mega-Bucks!
Do I tell the Missus that I sold it for $200, and pocket the rest of the money for the farkle pile?
    ORRRR....
Do I keep my mouth shut and keep it all???

only you know your relationship, personally I would tell the truth as its easier to keep track that way.

Of course you have publicly announced this, now it will turn up in google and your wife will find out anyway.

Rar and I learned long ago I am not to be trusted with money. I turn it over when I get, give her puppy eyes when I want something and sometimes I get it. There is a dark side to avoiding the truth, or any other foible with your spouse, they never forget. If you are caught I think Dante had a good idea of what your life would be like, and remember there's no parole from h.

I'm not too awful worried about what's going to happen to me once they hang the toe tag...
She's given me so much Hell over the years, that I own the entire place now: lock, stock and barrel!
    Call me Beelzebub!
But I suppose that I could just split the cash with her... I've got a Dillon 550B that's gathering dust; so I know that I could drop that on the market later if I start thinking about adding maybe another farkle or two...

Two lawyers and a judge would probably have given her that bow if she wanted it. I say, split it with her.

Give her all the money from the sale and stop the weaseling. You should have been mowing in the first place; and besides, she's put up with you all these years. And, as for the farkle, put your foot down and just go buy what you want, after you buy the mower she wants.

You have broken the first rule of the chrome stash, don't talk about it with anybody but somebody else who has one. Rule two always pay I'm cash and throw the receipt away. Never. Remember exactly home much anything costs. When she asks how much something was you can say with complete honesty "I don't remember exactly how much."
This is only what I have heard from my buddy Danno and not based on any actual personal experience.

What does the tractor have to do with this, and how in the heck do you get you wife to mow?

29 years old, you probably won't find parts for it. And if you do, they'll be more than what they're worth. RE the bow: dump it and and hide the coin. Oh crap ...

I think it must be a neighborhood thing. Hubby comments every time he sees a woman mowing the lawn, saying, "Look! There's another one!"'

As the CFO of this family, all money goes into one account. I do not think hiding money from each other is a good idea. It's called trust and the wedding vows of two becoming one. We've always been open and honest, and if either one of us wanted to buy something that may be a bit expensive, we talked to one another about it. If your wife is mowing the lawn, she should have a tractor/mower that is going to work. If the bow is yours, there should be no reason for you to hide the fact that you sold it and want farkle. This is just my opinion. You do what you think is right.............

Be honest with the Missus. Treat her to a nice night out and a dinner. Maybe she will let you buy a farkle or two afterwords.

Funny, but when I had a house my wife and I used to fight over who got to mow the yard because we both loved to do it. Finally we just split it in half, and our own half. Nothing better than walking/smelling fresh cut grass.

Buy her a nice zero turn mower she will love it and you can continue to monitor football to your hearts content. Don't lie about how much you get for the bow that will come back to bite you in the butt. Maintenance of lawn equipment should be your responsibility not hers - just saying.

Several of you have made some VERY good points; and I thank you for your assistance with this weighty issue!
After it has come to my attention that she is more than willing to open up her very own "SpyderLovers" account; I have decided that it would be best to give her all of the money and fire up the "Baby Blue Puppy Eyes"...

    But Doc,
    She still wants the Gift!
Maybe I'll buy a farkle for her end of the bike!
