SHORTEE ANTENNAS

Curious to know if anyone has tried the Shortee Antenna from ESI. And if so, is it just a screw off the old and screw in the new? Or could I just purchase any type of short antenna from a motorcycle shop?? We've been trailing our RT and the tall antenna gets caught up in the door of the trailer........

Wal-Mart sells a shortee antenna that just screws in for about $10.00. I replaced my stock antenna when it fell off for a time with the shortee and the radio worked fine.

I like the Walmart antenna too. I have the ESI on now and it rusted within 30 days. I also think the reception is better on the rubber ducks from Walmart. I'm switching back

I didn't have much luck with the shortees up here... The radio reception in our mountains (Well... SHORT ones anyway!) was noticeabley better with the OEM.
Flatlanders would have no trouble with them, but if you ride the hills...

You throw most of it in the trash. I used the riser and one of the adapter screws for a direct fit to the spyder. Your OEM rubber boot will fit over the new antenna with the help of a little soapy water.

The ESI shorter antenna was my first mod purchase back in 2010. Pop out the rubber sleeve, unscrew the oem, screw in the shortee, replace the rubber boot and you are good to go.

Reception for me was no different than the oem and I have never had an issue with this shorter antenna. I bought the chrome unit and it still looks as good as the day I bought it.

Have the chrome shorty on the '10 as well. No problems. Still have stock on the '12.

The ESI shortee was my first mod too - it's just the right size to hold my flag!! Haven't noticed any rust, but I don't us water on my Spyder, and it's only been in (light) rain once since 2010. Reception is no problem, but I don't listen to the radio very much - my iPod is my first choice...

After the antenna broke off on my '10 RTS, I bought the black shortee antenna. It has worked fine for me and makes putting on and taking off the cover much easier.

I had the chrome shorty from Custom Dynamics and it started rusting in 2 months. To their credit they replaced it with the black one and so far no problem. Reception was always good.

After a long ride with the MC, I pulled into the garage and noticed that someone had stolen my radio antenna AND the rubber boot. Do any of the after market antennas have the rubber boot part as well? The one's I saw at Auto Zone only had the antenna.........

Just installed the Walmart shorty on my RTS, $8.95 and works great. Use a 7mm offset wrench to remove the stock antenna, open up the hole on the rubber thingy and then use liquid vinyl to seal it up to keep the radio dry. Took about thirty min to do. Reception is the same as far as I can tell.

If you're gonna replace the OEM antenna anyway, why not clip off a portion first and see if you still get reasonable reception?
