GOS member (Girls On Spyders)
What strikes me as "funny" is that when riding, the bikes on the other side of the road are coming at us pretty darn fast. Obviously Spyders only look like, well, Spyders. I can't tell what the people riding towards me are on until we are pretty close. By that time, my hand is out giving the "biker wave" as are theirs'. I've never encountered an "un-returned wave", and if I did, I don't believe I would think a thing about it. Could be for numerous reasons.......
I was riding my two wheel recumbent bicycle around a lake in Dallas. A guy on a two wheel bicycle went blowing by me and yelled "cheater"!!! What??? Obviously he had never tried to ride up a hill in a sitting position on a 60lb recumbent bike! He was apparently an uneducated purist. I was however, riding my bike on the same riding trail, going around the same lake, and having the same fun. Go figure.
I pity the people who have to step on others just to make themselves feel superior. THAT is their burden of shame to bear.....not mine.
We ride for the love of it.......no one can take that away

Having ridden all types of cycles over the last 30+ years(including sportsters), HD as a
company contributes to this issue and their marketing will always have an adverse effect
on the weaker minded. If you don't ride an HD you're UnAmerican, if you don't wear black
leather and a beanie helmet then you're a dork, and the whole uncaged thing is just plain
lame. Sheep will be sheep, idiots will be idiots, and sometimes being tolerant of it all just
really sucks.

I ride mainly with HD guys...never an issue. We always have fun. A couple of years ago I rode in Rolling Thunder and left from an area HD dealership...yeah, maybe 500 HDs and me. Funny thing is that every one of them that I met was courteous and interested in the Spyder. In fact, they let me be one of the flag-bearers. Not one of them snickered or said anything negative. What was especially funny was seeing their wives come over and say things like 'if you had one of these, I'd ride on the back of it'. And some of the guys actually seemed interested.
What matters most is that you're on the road (safely) having fun. Most motorcyclists know this and those who don't have other issues that probably requires them to get some therapy to help fix...

I just figure if they dont wave, they may be scared to let go of the handle bars. Some hold on for dear life. I wave to everyone, even cagers as long as they are on the right er left side of the road. Well some anyway. But I do try not to wave to cops as I dont want to draw attention.

Funny, just today I met a guy from the Diablos M.C., and he invited me to their Fall Ball rally. He said he heard of the Spyder (I was in my cage at the store) and heard they were fast.
Is it Friday yet? ... Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm retired

It's HOGfest in Windsor
We shall see about the "waving"! Over 1000 riders in town for the weekend. Harley Owners only! I am hoping that it's not a "herd" mentality when they drive by. Up until now (including this morning) the HD riders have waved way more often than not!

Fast compared to what? Spyders are not fast, kind of quick, maybe.
You can be the fastest turtle, but you're still a turtle.

Looks like they took that post down? I can't get to it even after registering.
Found some other Spyder threads there...
Here is one that actually mentioned Seth!
"Spyders have there place...My wife a 3 time cancer survivor does not have the stentgh to hold up a regular 2 wheel motorcycle any more. We had to sell her Nightster due to this. So we talked to some friends and researched on line about trikes and Spyders....
Lots of options out there for her, but when we pulled into a local dealer to check out a Spyder. The wife saw a Red RT-S and fell in love...Needless to say we bought one and she has loved it ever since...
Several things that made us go with a Spyder instead of a trike, like was stated above, is a trike will push you straight, even when turning. Plus when in rain or wet roads the front tire turns into a ski instead of handling like a tire...Even had a buddy relate a story of him an dhis friend out riding, he was on 2 wheels and his buddy a trike. Got caught in a rain storm and went to turn a corner and the trike went straight into a mud embankment. Guy was OK but not good for the trike...The Spyder will get up an scream down the road. I took the wifes ride to work one day while my motorcycle wa sin the shop for service....I had the Spyder up to 115 MPH and still had RPMs left....THis thing is stock and is QUICK...Doesn't have the torque of a Victory 106 or HD 103 but it sure comes on around 4500 RPMs and pulls strong up to th e9K red line....
We just got back from Spyderfest and I can tell you these things are gaining in popularity. There were close to 1000 registered for this event and a ton more couldn't make it . Not bad for a machine thats been on the market for only 6 or 7 years... With the U.S. getting more older folks, a lot of peopel are turning to "trikes and Spyders" so they can continue to ride....
While at Spyderfest, we met this guy who is probably mid 20's and is a paraplegic, he rode and handled his Spyder like a friggin' crotch rocket rider, very cool to see this guy still enjoying life....
Also, we live in the wonderful East Tennessee mountains and the Spyder will out handle trikes all day long. The wife was following a trike up on th eCherohala Skyway one day and the guy was tipping his trike onto 2 wheels trhu some corners and the wife was actually pushing this guy to go faster (she is a slow driver too). The trike just couldn't maintain control and keep all three wheels on the ground and the wifes Spyder was digging thru each and every corner...It's not a motorcycle with lean but they can be fun if you will let them be!"

You're kidding, right? You don't consider 0-60 in 4.5 seconds out of the box as fast? That's fast turtle for you? What vehicle (cage) are you driving that is faster than that? A modified Spyder is likely closer to 4.1 or 4.2...
When compared to a busa, yeah, not much is fast...as compared with about 99% of vehicles on the road, the Spyder is plenty fast...

Yes Crusher, in a way I was kidding. I was trying to steer this thread in another direction for a moment. I figured I would ruffle some feathers with my comment but to my surprise it wasn't much.
I just get tired of the Harley bashing all the time. I know it's hard not to point fingers at them from time to time. I get caught up in it myself sometimes when a Harley rider puts my ride down and talks like I am less of a person because I don't ride a Harley. I owned and rode a Harley before and during my Spyder ownership. I finally sold the Harley last year because it never got much use as I enjoyed riding the Spyder a lot more.
This is just my opinion, but my take on this Harley thing is simple. When you look at the US population, a certain percentage of people are rude, self centered, hateful, ignorant, etc. When you look at the US motorcycle community, Harley Davidson has that market cornered. I'll almost bet that Harley makes up 75% of that market ( I could look it up but I don't feel like it). So it is easy to see why it seems so many people that ride Harleys are aholes.
Now back to the Spyder being fast. It is plenty fast enough for me at this time in my life. It is fast enough that you could lose your license if you get stupid. It is fast enough to get you killed. It is faster than a Harley, oops, did I just say that.
As for my cages that I drive being faster than a Spyder, no, they are not. But I have owned cars and rode motorcycles that would plant your eyeballs in the back of your head.
Like Bob said, speed is relative thing, and some of my relatives owned some really fast machines. I feel bad for people that will never know what it's like to drive anything other than a Prius. But then again, they'll never know that they missed out on anything.

Right there with ya! I don't ever wave unless I'm waved to first and then it's only if I feel like lifting my hand. Don't really care. I ride for me! Not for anyone else. At this point the people coming up to me to ask about the spyder have become a serious annoyance. I sputter under my breath;" Holy !#%$, could you people just leave me alone. The only person I care to talk to is my wife thru the intercom while she's riding her machine. Even then, I'll just shut her off when I'm sick of it!
