Rear Axle Nuts - turn the left nut, the axle turns too; is this proper?
Asking about loosening/tightening axle nuts. Looking at the rear of the bike. When I turn the left hand nut the axle is turning with it. Is this proper? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that nut is welded to the axle

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd it's the Only axle used on every Spyder ever made ..... in order to remove the axle you loosen and take off the NUT on the muffler side ..... Mike

Reason: axel = ice skating jump; axle = shaft that wheels turn on! ;-)

Yup. Hold the LHS and rotate the RHS, by the muffler.

Vice versa can help if tightening the nut wants to make the axle move. Based on a Google search of engineering sites I did 2 or 3 years ago there is very little, if any, difference in the end result if you hold the nut and turn the bolt. The friction of the head against the surface is essentially the same as the friction of the nut. The body of the bolt offers very little friction.
