Default i've got a question and it happens to do with birds!

i've only had the spyder for five or six weeks and i've already had two close calls with birds. has anybody actually taken one out with the winshield or the helmet?

Why is the movie "Wild Hogs" flashing before my eyes??
I've killed a couple with my helmets over the years... Better to let the helmet take the abuse than your face! I'm guessing that if they hit the windshield, it could be a REAL noteworthy event!

I have ridden 31000 miles, and live in a bird sanctuary area and have never had a problem or near close call with the Spyder. Never hit a bird on the helmet in the prior 40 years of two wheeler s to that - only a lot of bugs But whatever is out there -- GOOD HELMET PROTECTION IS ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN JUST PROTECTING SCRAMBLING YOUR BRAINS.

Many times , Just like with a car or truck.
Its the Squirrels that make it interesting, When they try to straddle the fount tires and then asphalt pizza when the rear tire gets them

I took out a small bird with my windshield a while back. The bird hit the small vent opening in the bottom of the shield. This kind of sliced the bird with a long line of guts running up the INSIDE of the window.

I've had a few do "attack" runs but have never been hit by one in 35 years of riding motorcycles. The ones you really have to watch out for are those in 4 wheels. Dale

Over my 35 years plus riding I have never hit a bird, but I've come close to taken a spill while bird watching.

I was going down the interstate and saw a hawk come out of the trees in a dive and pick a mouse up out of the median and almost hit my car on the way back up. ( I didn't yet own the spyder)

P.S. coolest thing i have ever seen while driving.

You might have to adjust your aim a little.

I have taken one out (small sparrow) with the windshield...........it just bounced off and left no damage except one feather attached untill the wind blew it off. Also had a very close call with a turkey vulture (large bird)........we had to duck our heads and at the last second he did a "power climb" and barely missed us . That was scary!

Default Quail hunting with a Spyder

A couple of weeks ago a quail flew into our windshield. The windshield didn't even get dirty.
BUT the quail didn't fare too well.

One bird with the frunk. A guy in Spokane was riding in Idaho, no helmet law in Idaho so he was doing 70+ on his 2 wheeler and a bird hit him in the forehead. It didnt take him off the bike but the doctor had to remove bird beak and other stuff from the wound in his forehead. He now wears a helmet all the time.

Ahh yes, the turkey incident. Can't remember her name but she had a picture of her and the turkey. She was the passenger, the driver ducked (oh, a pun?).

Never on Spyder, but two ducks on two different two-wheeled motorcycles (one was on a Ducati, so that seemed appropriate). Neither hit killed the ducks but the one that hit my handlebar and then rolled up and hit me in the shoulder, left a bruise on my shoulder (with armored gear) and almost rolled me off the bike. I hit it going about 65 mph. The other was a slow speed fender "tap" on a dirt back road in front of a farm house so no damage to bike, duck or me! Have also killed two birds and run over tail feathers of a peacock - also on two wheelers. Also fried one squirrel that tried to run across road but ended up mid-bike and got caught on the exhaust pipe - didn't find him until my next fuel stop and by then he was well done. Only death by Spyder was a snake in the road when I first started ryding the Spyder - was so thrilled to have "straddled" him with the front wheels....then remembered the back wheel and felt so bad .

Haven't hit a bird with the Spyder. A long time ago on an RD350 Yamaha I split a small bird with the visor on a Bell open face with half going over the top of the helmet and half down over the bubble shield. Several years ago we flushed a covey of quail alongside the road and missed all but one which hit my wife's right shin. She was wearing boots but it still left her leg bruised and sore for a couple weeks. I hit a turkey with the windshield of a car once. It shattered the windshield and pieces of it were all over the front seat. I would surely hate to hit a bird that large with the Spyder.
