The oil filter cap is $17.00 now so I don't think that will be an issue.

I agree. I could change my Gold Wing's oil in a half hour. I have not attempted to change the Spyder's because it seems more complicated than it could be. The older I get the less complicated I want stuff and would rather be riding than tinkering with my vehicles. I have my dealer put in my Amsoil and use BRP filters. That being said I love my SE5 trans and don't think I will ever go back to a manual shift. Now if I could just sell my Softail.....

BUT, I think the old one is just large enough to hold a double shot of liquor... I am going to start collecting them and boil them out and put a coating over them to make Spyder Oil shot glasses...
Wonder if I will need to be a site sponsor to sell them here...

I just don't get the complaints about the Spyder oil filter setup. The system they have works just fine. I can change my oil in 30 minutes - easy. It's just not that big of a deal.... isn't gonna change.... so why bother complaining about it?

Let's see...
The old 3000 mile interval: 3,000, 6,000, 9,000 etc...
But 4,600 miles?
4,600, 9,200, 13,800, ?? My head is hurting from the New Math!

I agree, and is that just for the oil change now with the oil filter set up? So you will still have the other 3K mile inspection requirements or did all of the 3K requirements move to 4600 miles. I hope BRP comes out with an updated print out so everyone knows for sure when everything is due. I wish BRP would just push the whole inspection to a 5K interval and subsequent inspections to 15K & 25K. But thats just me, i like round easy numbers to remember.

I'm sure rounding up to 5000 miles isn't going to hurt anything. Most people end up a bit over the mark anyways by the time they get things in.

Question... Do you have to use Obsolete oil with your Obsolete Filters? I don't want to void my warranty by using updated oil that isn't compatable with these Obsolete filters!

I was at my dealer today getting the recall done on my 2010 RT. The UPS man had arrived and the new filters and covers were in the shipment.

I'm certain that BRP will be happy to issue a new service bulletin with 4,500 mile intervals, just for you.
No reason you can't do it a bit sooner (and probably later as well). This will be handy for those on the road. 3K won't get me to CO and back. I wonder if the reinforcement is the only change for the engine filter?

Is the lack of Valve Inspection documentation (12K before and 14K now) going to void the engine warranty ?

I wonder if the Aprilia motorcycles that have been using the same engine filters since before the Spyder was built (Same engine - Same filter - SM5) is also changing to these new filters, or is it just our Spyder.
The Aprilia ran several years with an even smaller engine filter than what our Spyders use (the older ones still do) and they develop about 50 more HP than our Spyder with the same motor.
I think the larger transmission filter is a good move, but my feeling is the engine filter is not going to be a real world improvement. I will continue to run them in my Spyder.
I'll stick with ya and help you use them up and I'm sure many here will do the same.

I have heard that some have experienced deteriorization or separation of filter material from the housing with the OEM engine oil filters. As far as I know, this has never occured with the HiFlo filters I sell.
I've run mine as much as 6,000 miles and they look just fine when I pull them.
The Transmission filters I sell are of a different material than the OEM transmission filters and are supposed to flow more oil than the OEM filters. I do not know if shifting on the SE5's is better with my trans filters or not. As far as I know, no one has had any issues with the HiFlo filters I sell.
I am hoping that HiFlo will step up and produce at least the larger trans filter (if they don't already). It may be an off the shelf size.

If BRP had not come out with new filters everyone would still be fat and happy with the current products.
It will be interesting to see if anyone sees an improvement with the larger transmission filter.
After I read this for a while, I feel this way about it, I going to continue to use BajaRon's filters until his filter is gone and he finds another filter to fit the new HCM cap. Ron is one of us, he spent his time to find us quality replacement parts at a good price, and I am not going to throw him under the bus. I had two sets of filters (HiFLO), out of SE5 trans, checked out one with BRP blended oil at 3100 miles and other with a full synthetic oil at 5700 miles and was told that both pasted the inspection. That's IMHO.

I have been on 2 wheels for 67 years. And rode hundreds of thousands of miles on Honda Goldwings which only said change the oil every 5000 miles. So now almost 30 years later with all the new techs. we are suppose to change them at every 3000 and with the new tech filters 4600. WOW what an improvement!! Seems as though we have gone backwards or they are trying to make more money off us for simple maintance. Or are the motors that much worse? I surely hope not.
