Default FYI- New filters and Maintenance Schedule for ALL Spyders

    Service 2012-11

There is a new Maintenance Schedule that was just released for all Spyders that change the valve inspection time from 10,000 miles to 14,000 miles.

There is also a new part number for both the engine oil filter and the (HCM) trans filter that will increase the recommended oil change from 3000 miles to 4600 miles. You must have the new filters in place for the increased mileage for changes.

Also the new trans filter is longer and will come with a new longer cap. The old cap is 22mm long and the new cap is 35mm long.
You CAN NOT use the old filters with the new caps.

This is not a recall, this is a service bulletin to help cut our maintenance cost in the long run.

I have been changing the oil every 5,000 miles for a combined total of 65,000 miles on 2 different Spyders without any issues. For those that "go by the book" this will save a few cents.

    AWESOME news... yay BRP!

You don't happen to have a copy of that new maintenance schedule handy, do you? 4,600 is a nice number, but a round one, it ain't. It was my understanding that there would be no math...

I wonder how long it will take all the dealers to get the new parts?

Seems like if they have them stocked up, they don't have a whole lot of reason to switch.

The transmission filter obviously has more capacity because of its increased size but is there any word on why the new engine oil filter is better?

I would bet most here will be informing the dealers for the first time I'm sure they will want to use all of the inventory they have, unless BRP is swapping the old for the new. Doubt it though.

The engine oil filter is the same size and appears to be the same filter material. What is the difference?

Thanks for the update Lamonster. The HMC larger filter is a good idea. With a good full synthetic oil, are they really needed? When I use up my supply of filters that I got from BajaRon, I hope he will have the new HMC filters in stock. That's IMHO.

One of my dealers has received a stock of the new filters and HCM covers already. If you buy the new HCM filter, the first time you will also be supplied the new cover. This arrangement applies until May 2013.

I plan on picking up the new HCM filter and cover the next time I pass by the dealer. In the meantime I will use up my stock of old filters.

Did they mention any kind of price change?

    Just curious.

I don't think that there has been a noticeable price hike. The new filter price sounded vaguely familiar to what I paid for the filters I bought late last year.

    My dealer says:

Is this just for the 2012-11 Spyders or can we also use this filter and schedule for our older Spyders?

Theres Nothing Wrong with using up our old filters -- Its just that with the New Updated versions you will have
"BRP,s Blessing ?" to go 4,600 miles between changes.

Was at the dealer today to get the break pin installed, they didn't mention this but then again they didn't know about the pin recall either. Thanks for the heads up Lamont.
