Front sprocket
I posted some time ago about a busted clutch. One of the replies warn me about the front belt sprocket, guess what IT was the sprocket. I know, I know i should check that first. Now, the question is , the dealer do not have a 2010 sprocket at hand but do have a 2012 witch have a big difference, the 2012 sprocket do have an extra piece attached to it . It look like a power pulley use on racing vehicles to gain torque. can this be use on the 2010 spyder? remember this spyder will be using the aerocharger.

You sure that's a good idea to use that one Doc????
Pretty sure BRP changed more than just the sprocket... I believe Lamont said they made internal changes in the engine to compensate for the addition of the balancer.........
Spyder #1 - 2008 GS SM5 Premier Edition #1977. RIP after 80,000 miles.

Hey if the dealer is going to put the 2012 sprocket under warranty then let him do it.!!
I lost my sprocket and shaft [08 Gs] a few months out of warranty, and it cost me 18 Hundred dollars.

The dealer e-mail BRP to verify if this can be done , I'm still waiting on their answer

Well, since you asked....

Here is the same 30T pulley before it was remanufactured by my son, who is a machinist. The teeth are made from high tensile steel on the MELS aluminium hub. About $1000 if I had to pay for it but just $55 for the steel and several hours work.

Good news, the dealer installed the 2012 sprocket in the 2010 spyder. does that mean i will have more torque? But will definetly help the aerocharger

I wouldn't use that it was the shaft splines that failed on my alum sprocket

You do NOT want the splines on the sprocket to be stronger than the shaft splines. On my second OEM sprocket and they're cheap to replace.. like $70. Put another sprocket on it and then have shaft wear---- good luck getting it covered under warranty!

Not so if torqued properly. That pulley hub has done 25,000km with no wear because it was tight, preventing any relative movement beween the hub and shaft, which is what BRP said it the cause of the failures. The proof is in the pudding (pulley). It still looks new doesn't it!

My Mels 30 tooth is holding up great, too bad the Spyder doesn't have the proper shaft drive so there would be no need for this conversation. Glad to see someone with the talent to make a nice 30T
