Pic 1--made a mount out of aluminum (first did it with very thin material and used as a template for the thicker stuff--used .061). Drilled two holes on the circular ends and mounted under the lower handlebar screws.
Pic 2--Here's a link to a usable mount $6.90 (I cut off the strap and drilled it to the aluminum mount), it's fairly difficult to find straight 17mm ball mounts that Garmin uses. Another method is to get a 17 mm bead or cut a ball off a curved Garmin mount--shave the top and drill a hole through it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/330660309834...84.m1497.l2649
Pic 3--finished poduct--I cut a piece of plastic and velcroed on top for a sun shade
Start out with some fairly stiff aluminum. You'll need a strip 5 1/2" long and 1 1/2 inches wide. Ground the corners into a more oval pattern to fit the gap in the handlebars. You'll need to do 2 bends on each side, the first 1 1/2" from the end and the 2nd one 1" from the first bend.
Pull the lower two handlebar screws and drop the mount to check for fit--grind/smooth as necessary. Mark spot to drill holes--it'll be pretty close to the end.
