Best aftermarket windshield
I just got a 2012 RS. It has the sport touring windshield but that's not much help. What aftermarket windshield would everyone recommend? I know BRP makes a touring windshield but I'd love to know what other options are out there. Adjustability would be nice too I think. Any advice everyone has is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Madstad adjustable (or at least the Madstad bracket), since the CHAD is no longer available.

If you wanted to use a fixed shield this is one of the better ones. http://www.calsci.com/

Thanks everyone. I guess I need to figure out if the adjustability is something I would really use. The cal si windshield looks like a good option too.
I am about 5'9. Any thoughts on the best height? Looks like there are all different sizes out there. I don't want to have no wind at all

Look at my post under SaddleBag and check out the windwhield. Cee Bailey Aircraft Plastics is the manufacturer. It has a great reverse curve at the top which directs air (and most bugs) over your head and is therefore fairly quiet. It does not provide any wings for hand protection as the Ultra Touring WS from BRP, but is available in several heights to match the rider. I like mine quite a lot and the price, I think, was only about $169. It can be ordered in clear, light smoke, dark smoke, and blue just in case you want something a little different.

Its not just adjustability. With the Madstad system once you have found your personal "sweet spot" you leave it there but other fixed screens allow adjustment that lets you find the spot that is right for you.
Also screens fixed to the body bring their own problems as below.

If you are not looking for adjustability I would highly recommend Cee Bailey. I have the 23" Dark Gray & the 25" Light Gray. I previously had the 23" Light Gray & decided to see if the taller one would make that much difference. I was getting a little wind buffeting but not bad. After ordering the taller one I was contacted by the company & was told they needed pictures to update their website & if I was willing to provide them pictures of both windshields on my Spyder that they would give me both windshields including s&h for free! Plus they threw in a whole bunch of cleaning supplies. You can see my pics on their website.

I am 5'6" & after trying out both windshields I still do prefer the 23" plus I really like the dark gray tint. The 25" was just a little too tall for me. It is ok as long as I'm not sitting straight up because I am catching the top edge of the shield. I also didn't notice that much difference with the wind.
As the previous poster said the price is extremely reasonable & their customer service is great!

Yeah the best hight is 5'3". Then the stock windshield works! Just kidding! Actually the best hight varies by the riders hight. You should be able to just look over the top of the windshield in a normal riding position and not be looking thought it. Of course there are a bunch of folks like being over protected at the risk of not be able to see through their windshield in bad weather etc.

i am 5'8 and ride fairly upright. I use a Madstad bracket with a BRP ultra Touring windshield (26 inch I think). Very quiet. I ride with my face shield up which is something I could never do before. With the face shield down it is still remarakably quiet.

This from the Calsci web site:
Nearly all of our windshields have vents. These vents are part of the aerodynamic design of the shield, to reduce turbulence and noise. They are not there to make a flow of air on the rider. When you're riding on the highway, any windshield is pushing air away from the rider. This leaves a low-pressure pocket between the windshield and the rider. The air flowing past the motorcycle wants to drop into this low pressure area. If the outside air is allowed to spill into the area between the windshield and the rider, the result is turbulence, noise, and drafts. When outside air spills into the rider area, it almost always falls in a curved path, causing spinning vortices of air. These vortices are noisy and can cause the battering and hammering on your helmet reported by some riders. Our windshields and vents are designed to funnel air into the rider region to relieve this low pressure area and greatly reduce the tendency of outside air to spill in. The vents are designed so that the air coming through them is quickly dispersed, leaving almost no detectable air flow at the rider. Our goal is to produce almost completely still air on the rider with no back pressure.

Adjustability is about being able to move the shield into what is the best position for YOU. I have the CHAD adustable windshield. It's adjustable up and down and the tilt towards the rider forward and back. Once I found what works for me, I have not adjusted it since. Ya know, perfect is perfect!!!!

Madstad, no question. CHAD is no longer around and they 'stole' the original design from Madstad anyway...the bracket has since been modified and improved since that time. Give Mark a call...his shields are great...

You always say this. Was CHAD ever sued?
By the way, as soon as I get some more scratches on my Chad I'll switch to Madstad.

No...Mark just improved on the bracket to give it more movement...in effect, the CHAD had the older bracket design...
I have to still get him some pics of my shield...I got the really, really, light gray/smoke...there are no pics of it up yet on his site...I really like it a lot.
I had it a bit too high and just put it back down again...the noise difference is amazing when the wind is going over your head and not through it...

BEST WINSHIELD
MADSTAD IS THE BEST I HAVE FOUND. I LIKE THE ABILITY TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT.
THIS SYSTEM HAS SPOPPED ALL WINDBUFFING.
