Default SPYDER RT RADIATOR BLOCK OFF PLATE

My wife has a 2011 RT SM5. The heat coming off of the radiaator onto her right foot and leg is unpleasant to say the least. I am looking for advice and or suggestions. First of all is the Radiator Block Off Plate safe to put on her Spyder? Second will the installation of the plate affect her warranty in any way? Third does this plate actually make any difference? I will appreciate any information.

I recently put one on mine......it makes all the difference!!! I had nasty heat coming out of the radiator and now I have none. My highway pegs are right there and now I can ride comfortably! I doubt it will make a difference in the warrenty...I just had my bike at the dealer and nothing was said.

See SpydePops' website for several suggested cures. They all seem to be very effective.

If you never use highway pegs and only use the stock pegs then there is a new solution. LOWER BLOCK OFF PLATE!

We installed several at SPYDERFEST and have received good reports. They will be on our website in a couple of days along with the new Third Stainless Steal Grille.

That's what I need. I've ordered the cat heat shield and the upper block. When I test the temps I get the highest reading just below the lower cutout. I'll be your first customer on the website when they show up. Thx Tom/Fort Myers

Most of us have taken off the plastic panels under the engine to let heat escape after we install heat shield and yes they help a lot. only down side i have noticed now is more noise from the engine with belly pans removed. There is a bunch of Spyders in N Ft.Myers and up around here in Punt Gorda.

Do not have the block off plate yet, but just a thought, coming of the Goldwing that as vents you can open, close and direct heat to legs or body.

Anyone added one of these to the spyderpops block off plate.

You could close in the summer and open up in the fall

    Just a thought.

The lower plates are now listed on Spyderpops..It says not to use them with the upper blocked off. There is a rider (or is that ryder when you're on a spyder?), in Louisiana who has tested in hot weather using both and not having any overheat issues.
One odd thing worth mentioning..I pulled off the stock lower clear deflectors to increase air to the rider..when moving, the coolant temp went down one notch. Moral of the story, changing airflow can have multiple consequences (good or bad).
Also, Harry---that's a good thought..Nice to close or open depending on conditions but you can also redirect airflow which is what we're after.

Just fyi, here's a note that I got back from Spyderpops:

I have several people running both and one has already encountered 100+ with 80% humidity south of New Orleans with no problems. I just talked to him Friday and he is a happy camper.

If you do use both then you will have to keep an eye on your temperature and be ready to remove one if it goes up. I think you will be ok but I haven’t tested this myself so I have to advise just one.

    You're a mind reader!

Just last night I spent some time in the pondering chair starring at those holes and thinking there has to be a way to redirect that air without having to block things off and without having to remove the protective plastic from underneath Spyder. May not be the complete answer but, it's a good place to start.

    Thanks for the post!
