Mega Millions Jackpot
I just read it's up to $500 million for Friday's drawing. Can you even imagine???
I'm going for 2nd prize myself. $250,000 would be just fine with me!!!

It would be nice---but---the odds of winning are also very high. Not allowed here--but I would buy one ticket---just to make sure I did not miss my golden opportunity.

Nevada doesn't participate in the lottery so people here have to go out of state to buy their tickets. We happened to be going to Los Angeles today and couldn't believe the line for tickets at the first stop in California. The line was easily 500 yards long. It wasn't much shorter 20 miles further down the road. I bought mine in LA and when I asked for $5 worth the clerk was happy as he said that most everyone was buying hundreds of tickets at a time. He then proceeded to print off $25 tickets instead of the $5 I asked for.

I just passed Mega Millions billboards on I75 south and I280 north. It's up to $640 million now....
I hope more than one person wins!!

Why would you want to have me split my winnings with anybody else???
(Other than the good folks here of course!)

I did something smart this year: I signed up online to *subscribe* to the Mega Millions lottery, only $104 for the entire year.
Why is this smart? Because while I know I won't ever win, that small outlay permits me to always have the "What would I do if I won the lottery?" daydream continuously accessible anytime I want to visit it, with no further expenditure of effort. Never have to fill out a ticket, never have to go down to the 7-11, never have to watch the drawing. Instead I just know that at any moment I could get the email that changes my life (and not from Nigeria, either!).
That daydream alone is worth $104 a year. Lord knows that what I'll get outta my 401k ain't inspiring any daydreams.
Oh, and I also do the $5 office pool at work, but that has nothing to do with winning the lottery, but simply avoiding being the one schmuck left alone in my office after everyone else wins the lottery. It's simple blackmail, I tell ya, but very effective just the same.

LOL, we have a $20 buy in... it went from the 5 of us to 17 people now just because of that scenario playing out in peoples heads. So $20 for 340 tickets.... I like the odds, even if it means ONLY 17 mill

Silly me I forgot that I'm in Pacific time and I don't have to wait until 11:00 to see if I won. If I don't post again it isn't that I don't love you guys it is just that I'm in shock from winning the big one!

I guess the biggest Spyder gathering ever--which would have been held in Alaska will not be held next year--I did not win. Sorry.
-
Well this is as good a time as any to start getting a big pot built up again...

That's the good news (yeah I know 640M is about 320 times better than what they won)
The bad news is that today, 25 years after The Wins (as our family calls it) these folks are destitute.
Yep.
Strange but both my cousin & her husband continued to work, didn't do anything outwardly stupid but today their house, cars & toys have been sold at a Sheriff's Sale.
Too bad, I know.
And of course nobody would make those mistakes....
sure.
Strangely, my relative's plight is far from unusual, it's the norm.
So, some consolation if you aren't the winner.
Yeah, I've seen shows about lotto winners and the majority end up flat broke within 20 years. Sad. As they say...money can't buy happiness.
