WOODBRIDGE — The Woodbridge Police Department has a new vehicle at its disposal, a three-wheeled Spyder motorcycle. The Spyder is more versatile in traffic than regular cruisers, and will augment the traffic unit, said Deputy Chief Ray Stuart. The driver at this point is Sgt. Ed Thomas.Can-Am, the company that sells the Spyder, is showcasing the three-wheeled motorcycle by leasing it to police departments for $1. Officers get to drive it for a year. All the local police department had to do was outfit it with lights and sirens. For Thomas, the spring-like weather was a welcome opportunity to break in the new vehicle. He said it’s easier to maneuver than a cruiser, and will be used for traffic enforcement. At the same time, it has some safety features, such as traction control and stability control, that make it safer than a regular motorcycle. It is not just a fair weather vehicle though, as it is equipped with a windshield and heated grips.Thomas said the operator needs to have had a motorcycle license for at least three years.

I know a lot of people with disagree with me, but I do not see the point of using motorcycles (or Spyders) in law enforcement.
