I ordered the alternate cover because the deluxe one didn't appear to match the stock passenger backrest from the photos.... Did I make a mistake?

    Its still in shipping.

If you want it to match, get the delux. the alternate has smooth covering all over it, the delux has the texture on the sides that matches the passanger back and the sides of your seat.

If possible change the order for the Deluxe, that is if you want it to look like it came on the bike from the factory. The difference is the cover and stitching, both will do the job.

Well . Ups already has it. From the pictures the alternate looked like it matched better.

UPS came to the gate yesterday, the back rest is on my baby today. It is the third one I have installed so it went pretty easy,
Had more trouble getting the seat on and off than installing the back rest.

Looks GREAT too, I love every thing about these things. Took it out for the first ride and had lunch and came back home and really love the improvement in the ride with the new back rest.

Thinking of the larger tires on the front for my next mod { Falken Zien ZE-512 185/60R 82HB's} other riders have already gone over to them
    and have great results.

Going over to Daytona Beach for the first day of Bike Week 2012 with my old friends from my Rune Rider days, we are meeting up at CrackerBarrel
for breakfast at 8:30am if anyone wants to join us, it's just west of the Speed Way.

Mine showed up today as well and is currently at the shop for installation. Still not sure if I need to return the back and get the deluxe version. We'll see after its installed. I got the quick out option so a swap wouldn't be difficult.

Had mine installed while in "winter storage". Pick up yesterday and already really appreciate the Utopia backrest.

    Default Utopia Backrest...mounting the bike

I ordered the Utopia backrest and it should ship March 12th. I now have a question. I'm not as limber as I once was and am trying to figure out how to get on the seat with the backrest. I could lay the backrest flat, climb on board and hope to some how straighten it back up.

Any suggestions? Guess I just can't visualize this one

Sounds like you already have a good game plan, just stand up on your pegs and raise the back rest up to the seat position once your on the bike.

I'm a big guy, but only 5'11" and mount by standing on the left peg with my left foot, swing my right leg over the saddle and bending at the knee to clear the backrest. My knee barely rubs the backrest as it goes by.

The Utopia is one of the 'Best Mods' I have added to my Goldwing and now my Roadster. My wife said that it was pretty snug on the back seat yesterday... She is only 5ft tall and about 120 lbs. There is only about 12 inches from the back of the rest to the front of the passenger backrest, may have to see what options are available down the road.

We added a Diamond seat to the Wing that came with driver and passenger backrest and she had a lot more room, enough to carry our Havanese on short rides...

    Default Utopia Backrest Installed

Just installed Utopia backrest on my RT. It's very comfortable, great support and doe not impede on my passenger's comfort, at all! A nice thing about this is that it's easily removable, and when it's not needed (short rides), it takes a minute to take off or put back on. It's a nice option! Since I've never had a backrest, it does take some time getting used to it, just being there.
Unlike other mods, once you've added it, you always have the choice to use it or not, with no fuss....

I got the alternate cover and was concerned that it wouldn't match well enough. Well, it matches close enough for me. Only difference is the lack of texturing. Still looks great, so I'm gonna keep it. Went for a long ride the day after I got it. And while I couldn't really lean back and relax like I had hoped, or could in a car, it did prevent me from slouching as I would tend to do after a while of riding, forcing me to keep a proper riding posture, so after 250 I still had no back pain. Normally by that point I would have a back ache around mid back. Maybe a bit more fiddling with its forward position and some highway pegs I'll be able to lean back a bit more. If not, the proper posture and lack of back pain makes it so worth it!

Welcome to the club!! I am only 5'3". We just installed this on our RT. The backrest is adjustable up and down as well as front to back. I rode the RT yesterday and it was perfect, with room to adjust. I wish the backrest on my RS was like this one. I don't think you'll have a problem.

    Default UTOPIA installed

Yesterday evening I installed the new Utopia backrest on the LTD. The scary thing was the driving of the bread knife into the backrest...all the way .
Battled a bit with the lining up of the bolts but no major issue. I can recommend to do this job yourself, not all that hard.
Looks great and I will take the lot out for a run today.
It seems that I do not need to hoist Kathy into the back seat, she will fit in there without the use of levers...with room to spare...and room in the pouch for her hair dryer..

    Default OEM Seat Fuel Door

Well after several months of procrastination I finally completed the Fuel door mod. I see that someone else here beat me to it, but I didn't want to cut up my PE0036 seat so I had to wait on a spare seat.
Thanks to Bob from Utopia I was able to aquire the textured material to cover the door so it matched the existing knee pads. Home Depot provided the hidge and the fuel door itself was cut from the top of a polypropolene 55 gal barrel and shaped using a heat gun.
It wasn't a difficult mod, but took some time to get everything lined up just right.
My wife was so happy as now she doesn't have to get off every time we fuel. C-YA RL
