Default Brp OEM hid's or aftermarket ones???

Hello everyone. I am looking to replace my halogen headlights with hid's. Should I go with the brp oem ones or with some aftermarket ones? I know the brp ones are expensive but are they really better?

Just wondering which kit that is? $139 or the $109. Also, do u know the difference between the two? They both mention thath they use phillips bulbs, so I really dont see the difference, besides the price.Thanks.

I'm not sure of the difference myself. I've seen posts saying they both work. I have the extreme version myself.

Has anyone used the HID conversion kits sold by Custom Dynamics ? I think they are a little more but not nearly as pricey as the BRP kit. My experience has been that Custom Dynamics ( a great SL sponsor) always stands behind their products 100% and are usually worth a little extra price. My next HID kit will be bought from them!

I went with the kit from custom dynamics, very pleased with the results. All plug in install easy to follow directions.

I was told by Lamont that some of the HID kits interfer with the Bud system, it sounds as if you guys have these installed, any issues?

Which kit did you buy that has the double set up as shown. On line they only show single bulb kits for motorcyles so you have to buy 2. I was interersted in the extreme if possible

    Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but...oh wait, this is SL, of course someone will correct me

I heard that the non-BRP HID's have a higher draw on the electrical system than the OEM. I'm not an expert on the bike's electrical system, but perhaps someone who is can chime in and shed some more light. I was also recently made aware that the BRP HID lights have a lifetime warranty. A friend of mine has the BRP HID's and experienced an outage in one of the them, when he asked the dealer how much it would cost to replace it they told him it wouldn't cost him a cent because it carries a lifetime warranty. Any idea if the aftermarket guys have the same warranty?

I have the HID's that ESI/Custom Dynamics sells and they work fine. The kit's I was telling you about are some of the cheap kits that you see on ebay and else where that have not been tested on the Spyder. If they are a vendor here and they sell a HID kit for the Spyder you're in good shape.

The problems with HID interference with the CANBus are cause by RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) or electrical noise from the ballasts. I agree with Lamonster that it is best to but something that has been tested on the Spyder. Even then, you can get interference depending on where you install the ballasts and how the wiring on your specific Spyder is run. Occasionally you can get a bad ballast, too. You can buy a cheap kit and take a chance, or pay a little more and have a guarantee and a tested product...your choice.

Getting back to the rest of my question, which kit did you buy that has both bulbs and ballasts as shown?

    Thanks,

I bought the xenon depot xtreme hid kit. Came with 2 bulbs, ballasts, and wiring with inline fuse.

On my RT I found the best place to put the ballast was on top of the speaker enclosure. And each one gets power from a fuse box i already had in the front as opposed to having their own run to the battery.

Well I have a GS so I dont have the " speaker enclosure " yet I have to get creative one of these days .But I was thinking about getting/creating my own fuse box in the trunk right around where the 12volt/cig adapter is . But then I have to order more parts and do more work to make it look pretty and etc LOL . Putting a Stealth stereo on this thing will be hard enough LOL . But having a dedicated fuse box for aftermarket toys is DEFINATELY a smart idea...Like everyone on here I really am greatful for all the "tech" savy people or people who have gone through all the trials of installing this or that , so that others may have an easier time . For that I thank all of you on here who deal with me or other people asking questions a MILLION and one times .I will get some pictures before/after and possibly during for the forum of modifications and to let all of you know I still "GOT IT" in terms of installing ( Since I sort of retired from professional mobile electronics installations )

I really like Brp hid except that it's not the 6000k white but more like typical oem 4300k white.
It projects very bright but low beam of light very far, very focused unlike aftermarket kit.
I would not have paid $900 but at 430, when Brp goofed up their price on hid and some dealers took advantage, I jumped on it even thou I had xenon depot hid kit in hand. I ended up selling it to another member because xenon depot would not take return on a unopened product without a restocking fee.

Brp hid ballast is full size but it mounts on the front part of frame neatly in factory drilled holes and comes on plastic isolation pad so no metal to metal contact.
    High quality Hella product.

There is a Brp hid on eBay now for 375.

I just placed my order with KB but their ad was very confusing. It said the kit I wanted started at $159 but the only option was $199. It also said 40% off but that was not reflected anywhere. Very odd site. Also, after it gave me the option to use a different delivery address, when I pressed approval it came up and I need to contact them since the shipping address differed. It briefly came up and gave me an email to contact but it disappeared before I could do anything. I sent them an email off of the home page so hope they get back in-touch soon.

How hard is it to install the factory BRP HID kit? I bought it last year before I moved and it is on my list to do within the next two weeks.

I've been running 2 sets of the Xenon Depot (KBCAR) kits on my spyder for quite awhile now and they work really well.

    Spyder #1 - 2008 GS SM5 Premier Edition #1977. RIP after 80,000 miles.
    Spyder #2 - 2012 RT SM5. Traded in after 24,000 miles.
    Spyder #3 - 2015 F3 SM6. Put 13,000 miles on and sold it.
    Spyder #4 - 2017 F3 SM6. Too good of a deal to pass up!
