Spyder Lift Jack
I'm going to have to purchase a bike lift/jack for future mods. I've seen Lamont's projects up in the air in several posts, but I can't tell what the brand is. Will any standard bike jack with the proper lift rating lift an RTS or do I need a special jack that is wider at the base lift point? Any and all comments welcome.
Many thanks in advance

Low profile ATV lift from sears is what I use.
Spyder #1 - 2008 GS SM5 Premier Edition #1977. RIP after 80,000 miles.
Spyder #2 - 2012 RT SM5. Traded in after 24,000 miles.
Spyder #3 - 2015 F3 SM6. Put 13,000 miles on and sold it.
Spyder #4 - 2017 F3 SM6. Too good of a deal to pass up!

OK, great! That's just what I needed to know. My concern was the base width of the Spyder vs. a Street bike as well as balance point front to rear.

Oil Change
On the subject of changing motor oil... It seems that every time I get it done, the cost is jumbled up along with a whole lot of other maintenance. Can anyone give me an average cost of what a dealer charges?

Practice Anger Management skills because there usually are no set price. Last time I was in they done that to me also. One time around $100. and then last time $180. When I asked them about it they said it was because they checked other things like belt tension and ect. Anyway, What ever the guidelines that are put on the bike by BRP will determine the price.

Thanks, I don't want to seem to hijack the thread, but the excellent price of the jack has me thinking. I purchased a pair of ramps for $45 (I think) from HF over the weekend, with the intention of doing my own oil changes. Now that I see the coupon (THANKS LYONSDEN!!), I'm thinking of exchanging the ramps.
BTW, how would one jack an RS with that thing? Do you come in from the front?
And, depending on how much materials are, (need to do some homework on BajaRon's site) and time invested to do the oil change, the lift would pay for itself on the second oil change.
Got lots to consider...

Usually you go in from the side that you aren't working on. Your manual should show you where the points of contact should be for your particular machine.
I just purchased that jack online and the $40 off worked. Thanks, Lyonsden! my total with ground shipping and tax --->
Subtotal |
$59.99 |
Shipping |
$6.99 |

My ATV/Spyder lift was delivered last night. The box looked as if it had been put through a shredder and taped back together. My first thought was "Oh no, if there were any loose parts in there, I'm screwed!" There were loose parts, but fortunately, they somehow managed not to fall out. I think that the instructions must have, though. If I didn't have the cover of the box to look at I would've been guessing at how it went together. Looks good and seems to work fine. Overall a great deal with the $40 coupon code.

I've never jacked my SM5 up to do an oil change. I have an oil "catcher" that is pretty flat and has a large flat funnel that attaches to an opening on the side and fits under my Spyder just fine. No need to use the jack. On occasion, I have jacked it up, I jack up each from wheel and put some lumber under the tires, then the rear end get's jacked up and that's it. When I've adjusted the rear shock, I just jacked it up forward of center so the rear wheel hangs down... I'll need to use that technique soon when I replace my rear tire.

What can I say, I'm a tool freak. If there's a chance that I might need it before I misplace it for good... I have to have it, LOL. My electronic water level sat in it's box for years before I built my last deck. After all, a bike jack that I can slide in from the side and with a few pumps have all three in the air and be able to move it around in my garage with little effort, is worth the $69.51 to me.

You're welcome. I think the coupon is good until March 12th.
kevorama my jack came with the instructions and I still used the front of the box. It actually looked a little worse to put together than it was I thought. Glad to see everyone get the good deal!

I have the Harbor Freight jack and I am disappointed with it. No matter what I do, it drops the Spyder instead of lowering it slowly. Anyone else having this issue?

Do you have an oil leak or is it low on fluid? Mine goes down rather slow. What happens if you depress the pedal partially instead of full down?
