    Default Snowy Ride Video

I had a little time so I put together a video from my ride with Catniption to the top of the mountain this weekend. Hope you enjoy!

way to go buddy. Spyders handle well in the snow, they are even better that some cars with a snow tire and sand bags on the back.

Nice video Andy. I'd forgotten how beautiful it is up there. The skiing was really good there in the early '70s. Bet it still is. I spent a lot of time touring the petroglyphs and the pueblos. Hunted antelope in that area. Took SAR training there too. Would love to get back there. I was stationed in southwest NM at Holloman AFB in the late 60s to mid 70s.

That's done using the handlebar mount that comes with the Drift. It's meant for a bicycle, but it stretches to fit the Spyder handlebars. I use that mount on the back handgrips and rear pegs (when I don't have a passenger) as well. Good times!

Default Snow doubt about it, you can turn a Spyder into a snowmobile

Okay, I have video, but I'm not nearly as good at putting together a short film! I had a blast on this ride! I swear I love my Spyder more each time I ride her.

I will work on my video to try to make something decent out of it. ABQ, I may need your help with that!

No worries Cat! I'm happy to help. I have an 8GB flash drive. If I hand that off to you could you put the video on it? I could do some edits and you could tell me what you think...?

    Default snowy roads

I know that the cages usually make 2 tracks through the snow. How does it ride when you have the rear tire in the yuckkky stuff in the middle?

Really neat. What was the temperature that day? What do you wear to keep warm? I used to ride a lot in the colder weather (2 wheels) but not in snow. You have encouraged me to ride regardless of the weather as long as the roads are somewhat cleared. Thanks for sharing.

Answers to the last 2 questions:

    1. Rear tire in the yucky stuff: I tried to keep the rear tire out of the yucky stuff. I would leave the front 2 wheels in the snow and slush and make it a point to keep the rear wheel on the more cleared out areas. I did have one point where the rear wheel slipped and kicked out for a second, but the traction control put me right back in control. No worries.

    2. Riding gear: I don't have a riding gear budget, so I use some of my old army stuff. So did my wife Becky. I find that in the 15-30 degree range, poly-propylene (long underwear) works well under jeans. I also have an old field jacket liner that I will employ sometimes. On this particular ride, it was in the 30's at the base of the mountain and probably in the teens at the top. My wife commandeered my thermal long johns, so I actually wore fleece pajama pants under my jeans along with the poly-pro top and my jacket (which has a zipped-in liner).

One thing I need to find some pennies for is a good pair of winter riding gloves. My hands were very cold up on the mountain.

    Best,
