When I downshift and decelerate there is no backfiring. The backfiring takes place, as an example, when I downshift from 2nd to first and as it is slowing I give it the gas. If I don't give it the gas to speed up, it doesn't backfire. I have an SM5 and it will do that no matter what gear I downshift from.

I actually believe the spyder was doing that before changing exhaust; it just wasn't as pronounced b/c the stock exhaust was quieter.

Is it time for an O2 modifier? There are no other performance mods on my 2008 spyder.

Did you do the proper procedure for changing the pipe?
When I went with my Hindle it said to disconnect the battery for a period and then let the bike run with the new pipe for 20 mins. without touching the throttle. Shut it down and restart and you should be good. My Hindle still popped and spat a bit when you came back into the throttle but the new software upgrade from BRP seems to have made it better.

I didn't disconnect the battery. I just idled the spyder for 15 minutes after installing the muffler. I thought there was a thread I read awhile ago that said it wasn't necessary to disconnect the battery.

You mixture is too rich when you're going from idle to hitting the throttle. This is likely causing your backfiring and I used to have this problem with my hindle, green filter, and juice box combo. I reduced the juice box settings (number 4) and haven't had the problem since.

As far as conditioning the pipe goes...or, really conditioning the electronics of the bike for the new pipe...the hindle instructions used to say to disconnect the battery for I think it was 10 minutes, re-connect...run the bike for 15 minutes with the new pipe (no riding, just idling), and then shut it off...this mapped the new system for you...

Many here think that the battery reset does nothing but I'm only saying what the hindle directions were (are)...

I had a lot of back-firing on deceleration. I changed the 02 sensor and have not heard it pop since. It seems to run smother too when you are in to the throtle. It worked well for my spyder. I still think there would be even more improvement with a controller and some on here have had luck with that.

I ordered the O2 modifier yesterday. I'll see how that works out. If I'm not satisfied, I'll probably get the power commander.

I had the new DPS installed last Sept. when the bulletin first came out. Nothing was said to me about a software update. Maybe when they installed the DPS and ran BUDS, the software was automatically installed.
