Did canisterectomy today....but!!
I was having the notorius "gas fume odor" so I removed the evaporation canister per instructions on the forum and I still have the same odor, but for some reason I usually only get the gas fume odor when I hit the brakes real hard which is when I smelled it today. Does anyone else get that odor when stopping real hard and/or does any one have an idea about why I should get it then.......and what to do to cure it?

Uh, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't an update fix this problem so this 'canisterectomy' was no longer necessary?

I've had every update that has come down the line and none of them has changed the gasoline smell. I also had the rough running between 3000 and 4000 RPMS and after the updates I still always had it. Tonight after removing the canister as I said I still get the gas fume odor, but it does seem to have helped the rough running. I only had time for a short 10 mile ryde so I am not sure if that is cured or not, but I definitely still get the gas odor.
One other thing I did not notice any gas smell from the canister itself when I removed it, like some said they had noticed upon removing it.

I have a 2008 GS and only get a few fumes when the bike is shut off after running it for a while...this doesn't bother me...
I have never gotten fumes when riding...as far as roughness with certain RPM, this is no so abnormal with this bike...I think there is a tensioner that someone created and short of that, nothing is going to smooth out the Spyder completely...she runs generally rough...
Regardless, good luck with getting your issue taken care of...sounds like it's really annoying...

Check all the hose clamps on the fuel lines. The ones securing the fuel filter on mine were loose and gas was dripping everywhere. Also route the vent toward the rear of the bike. Early versions (like my PE ) had a very short vent, and the "fix", though it extended the hose to the bottom, still vented up front just behind the frunk.
