Is there any gravel on Mt. Wash? We were up in Conway the other day and someone told us parts of the road have gravel.Did not matter anyway because be the time we got there its was really raining and blowing. We did go down to the flume in Francnia notch which was really nice and went down the Kanc. and saw some covered bridges and a set of waterfalls. We enjoyed riding in your state, really pretty scenery and the folks were friendly>

You know what? I don't know!! It's been years, and years, and years since I have been on the Mt Washington auto road!

However, I do think the weather up there is so fierce that if the road were not all paved, it would be almost impassable at times. Plowing gravel doesn't work too well.

Needless to say, whoever of us puts together the list of locations for the Spyderweb, will find out these things before a location ends up on the list.

Glad you enjoyed our state!! NH has its very own personality.

Just came across this list. I would like to add route 302 from Conway to Franconia Notch. This includes the Mt Washington Hotel. Incredible mountain views.

The Flume and Basin are also must sees in the Franconia notch Park.

Blue ridge Parkway. 460 miles of national park with fantastic mountian vista's from the Smokey mountains to the Shenandoah valley. My wife and I just made this run this week. The Blue Ridge starts at Waynesboro VA. and ends at Cherokee N.C. we Started at Cherokee and went north. It takes a good 3 days to make the ride (45 mph speed limits and a lot of sights to see).

there is alot to see around Mt Washington, bring a bathing suit, the rivers are clean and cool. also go to Whitehorse Gear nere the police station in north conway, all things for motorcyclist from reading to raingear and a discount. be sure to ride huricane mtn. road and cathedral ledge. then go to Maine, Route 302, 117, & 35 takes you to Bentley's in arundel. food, bar, and camping all about motorcycles. then ride rt 9 and the port and along the beaches i could go on and on. route 1 north is slow but fun, rt 95 is the toll way just a fast way to get somewhere.

There are sections, near the top that are hard packed dirt, but there will be some loose dirt on top.

A few years ago I rode up it on an ATV (club day). It was quite the ride up. Having been up on an ATV, there's NO WAY I'd go up in a car....the road gets too narrow for my liking, considering the drop off on one side. Beside, while in a car, you can't feel the changing of the weather as you ascend. it's really something.

With the engine brake my machine had, I only tapped the brakes twice on the way back down - both at sharp corners. Definitely watch your brakes on the way down. There are a few places to pull over on the way down to let them cool off if needed.

If you are coming near the seacoast of New Hampshire, do NOT miss Route 1A along the coast. It is a very beautiful drive! I have been on it more since we bought our Spyder last year than in the previous 30+ years I've lived in New Hampshire. (It's just not the same in a cage.)

Be sure to visit the "Cog Railway" to the top of Mount Washington (base station road, Marshfield Station, New Hampshire) route 302 west/east near Bretton Woods. Very scenic. Deanna

Also, Put the Kancamangus highway, on your things to do list when in the area, and go on the Bear Notch Road , smooth road, scenic, a lot of corners.

Been on the Kancamangus highway, and the Bear Notch Road several times. Deanna
