Thanks for the photo"s Forest. It was good visiting you and Doc in Lake Placid. Oh yes thanks also for the riding lessons in the rain! After you get rested up, go gas up the spyder so you can give Doc a ride back to Reno to pick up his Spyder. Your one tough DUDE.

    Default the ride

Well I met DocDoru at the Champion Gate just off I4 near Kissimmee, fl on the 27th of July at 9 AM... we toped off and hit the road and I was given the lead to get to I75.
Needless to say, I was so excitied in getting started I missed the cut off to reduce the amount of traffic around Kissimme, and we ( my cause ) lost an hour.

Once on the road there were nothing much to tell except we went Through Washington DC ( 2 AM ) some traffic, 90 Degrees, and the smog was absolutely horrible.

Finally we got back on the open road and made very good time to the Hotel in Lake Placid, NY at about 4 PM on the 28th.. We joined a large group of spyder peeps a the Tail of the Pup, BBQ, and had a excellant chat with all that was there. Also had some clam chowder with Reggy and his wife, of course there were others.

I then told all that I was heading for the hotel to get some rest, and of course Doc said sleep is a waste of time, and I said good night to all. I then left and hit the bed with alot of zzzzzzzzzzzz'ss.

We got up at 7am on the 29th and met a group at the Howard Johnstons and teamed up with Mudpuppy and his bride. We did the poker run missing only one due the that store closing. OH did I say it rained all day.. Guess not.. needless to say we stopped at bob's motorsports and got a oil change, and I a new rain suit ( 1 piece ). Had a hamburger and a soft drink and went on down the road for the next stop...Wow, another Bob's Motorstore and had more hambugers and soft drink. And then down the road to get the last poker chip, and upon our arrival, the store was closed. Grrrrrr. Oh well we had enough for the 5 card play.

We, Doc, Myself, Mudpuppy and his wife retired to the hotel resturant and had food and some refreshment drink... We all decided to ride up to the Casino Sat morning 29th and meet at hojo's 8:30am.. We met, We road, and arrived at the Casino around 10:30am.

Upon on arrival and check in, we received a 10.00 free spin on the slots at the casino.
OH boy,, just maybe they have a card game going, ( texas holden ) , much to my dissapointment the card games didn't open until 2PM.. so I took my 10 free spin and the casino free birthday gift of 10 and went to the slots. I doin't play slots and know nothing about them but I had an expert with me, so he said, and after a bit I had 24 dollars in cash. Well it didn't stop there, my expert talked me into playing again and I lost it all, enough said for the expert.

Great food, and the prizes were great too.. Not sure what all doc won, but I won an customized AIR HAWK, and a ISCI 250 gift Cert. Wow was I supprized.

At approximately 2:30PM doc and I departed heading for Eureka, CA for the spyders in the redwoods, which is another story it self so I will return with that saga later..

Needless to say we left the Casino about 2:30PM Saturday and decided to ride until sunday evening. We managed to put 1000 plus miles and decided to stop and rest. Monday morning we took off about 8am and continued on our journey.
Here comes the sticky part... Upon gasing up just east of Rawlings, WY, my spyder went into limp mode. Checked the oil etc and all was visabley well. After about 15 minutes I tried to start the spyder again and wow, it started and no engine check, no limp mode, so we continued on to the next gas stop.
Upon filling at the gas stop, the spyder again got the check engine and went into limp mode. I then waited for 15 minutes and tried again and same thing.. I waited another 15 minutes and bingo it started without the check engine and no limp mode.
So our journey continued, and upon at the gas stop in Salt Lake City, UT, I got the check engine and limp mode.. After 30-45 mintues, still check engine. During all this limp mode process Doc kept suggesting that I stop and get help at the Salt Lake City dealer. I finally agreed, and Doc called Best, and we got a tow truck to take the spyder to the Dealer. This was at 2am Mon. I told Doc there was no need in his staying with me, and he was hesitant in doing so, but he went on his way, with the knowledge that we could always keep in touch via cell and DAVE01 ( as the central control ) and Dave was right there all the time. Thanks Dave.
After checking in the motel and getting up at 9am Mon and getting a ride to the dealer I found that the dealer HIGH ADVENTURE POWER SPORTS had the spyder back in service and was doing diagnostics and apparently talking with BRP.
About 1PM Justin, the service manager, came out, they loaned me a couch and I napped while they were working, and told me the bad and the good news.
1st that the throttle body was bad. none on the shelf inventory. And of course you can just see my reaction...LOL.
2nd that BRP had approved they pull a spyder off the floor and use it as a part donor. WOW I said and it is all under waranty and due to my being far far from home base.
At this point I have to say hurah for BRP's input as it would have taken 3 days to ship and receive the throttle body.
Now that was only the beginning of the fantastic service at High Adventure, it was said that I would be ready to go by the end of the day. Well I just currled up on the couch and took a nap only to be awaken by Justin telling me I am ready to go......That was about 5PM.
Time to pay for the oil change and belt adjustment, all other work was completed under waranty, and readjusted my load, I left High Adventure at 6:15PM Mon. BIG BIG THANKS to HIGH ADVENTURE and BRP for getting me on the road.. Expecally Justin and Gary.. I owe you guys.
Well after getting out of Salt Lake City on I80. I had more issues... NO NO.. not with the spyder, but the wind... the wind gusts were just horrible and until I got out of the desert area I had to stop 2 times and rest my arm and get unstressed.
Then I hit I5 and went north to Redding, CA and then over the rt 299, good road, busy and twisty, not too many passing zones, and then I saw a sign Eureka, CA 40 miles.. I said to myself " great " I may make it before supper.
I arrived at the hotel at 2PM Tue, and the other spyders at the event were just returning from the Redwood ride... grrrrrrrrr... missed it.
I called Doc, and he was on his way and would be there soon... OK, yep,,, I beat him to Eureka and that is a first. But under the circumstances, I think not due to his misforturne.
Upon his arrival we then proceeded to the cookshack for the Event Dinner.
Doc headed back to Reno after a brief sleep, and did not awaken me when he left, so I got a lot more sleep.
Wed I started to head south to Hollister, CA ( Corbin ) as I have an appointment at 8AM Thursday.
Wed night I met up with Doc at the Hollister, CA Hotel.
Arriving at Corbin, thrusday am, Ticketbait, John Crum was there, what a suprise. We had a bit of breakfast and photo session. Doc then check out the new Corbin Bags that were being exchanged for his leaking ones. Then off Doc went heading to LA for a business meeting on Friday am. There I sat lonely and abbandoned. HAH not true, John stayed the day while Corbin built my seat., at 5PM Thursday out the dooe I went and headed for the motel for a nights rest before the trip HOME. ( Doc and Dave called and we started to make a route plan to return home. It was either I 20 or I 10...and I finally chose I 10. That is another story.

Wow great story Forrest, I think you really had allot thrown at you, yikes I had my throttle body go out on me, and dealership got same approval to swap since I was leaving for spyderfest. I thought it was just the 2010's that experienced problems. 2 am for a tow truck, yikes, guess they probably weren't busy and then you had nasty wind after getting back on the highway but you still rode all the way to Eureka.

Here is a photo of the smoke house dinner stop. (both you and doc are in the photo)

Since you missed the ride in the redwoods, you will just have to come back next year to re visit.
I'll share a couple photos with you from that day , I still haven't found time to do a write up.

and then the day you got your new seat at Corbin, I left before yours was completed. Waiting to here how the ride back was, I know you really got a different shape customized for your upper thigh support. Hope it worked out.

    Enjoyed breakfast with you all!

    Default leaving Corbin

Finally at 5:PM Corbin fininished my seat and I retired to the motel for a bit of rest and get ready for the return home.
I left the motel at 9am ,, later than I planned but no problem... Went down the street for a bit of breakfast, fuel and off I went heading towards LA on I 5, looking for I 10 EAST.
Called in to central control ( Dave01 and we tried to bet spot working but, no success,, will have to get Doc to assist and will do so later in the day...

After getting past LA on I10, the weather did not improve but got worse... HOT HOT HOT 3 digits on the highway.. The heat just wore me down very quickly so I stopped to stay over and leave early the next am.

Stopped and slept until 3am and off I went running down the road unitl mid afternoon,,, HOT HOT 110 in the shade and no shade. I then decided that I would not run days but nights... so how do I do that and still get some mileage before the switch. I decided to suffer this day and run till morning...did so, found a motel that would let me check in at 8am and leave after 8pm without charging me for two days, as most motels checkout is 11 or 12 and the new day starts.

Finally got into texas and about 10PM running real smooth on the straight road and not seeing a wild varments, THE LIGHTS came on lighting the entire area as if a space ship landed... No No space ship, but texas state trooper. I pulled over and he came ujp to me and stated that I was speeding. OH? I said, looking at my GPS, it stated that 80mpg was te speed limit... Well he said that he have been following me for the last 10 miles and my speed basically did not change from 80.. However, the speed limit is 65... OH? why do I see 80 on my gps... the trooper chuckled and stated that is the day time speed limit, night time is 65... I replied I thought I saw a sign about trucks at 65 but really didn't notice any other sign.. well at this point I was going to be arrested, or a ticket or both, and then the suprise came.... The trooper said " Sir slow down to the speed limit and have a safe ride " and he walked away. well for many miles I honered his wish.

Actually the rest of the trip was at night except for last part of the trip home, as I drove straight through.

When I arrived home, I started to breath again, and had wobbley legs and was ready for the shower and BED 'for some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's.
I spend the next 3 days in a sleep mode as I did not go out of the house.

You ask,,, would I do that trip again ?.. Yes but you buy the fuel.... and motel's as I would take 3 weeks or 21 days... for the same trip.

It was a challenge, and I really feel good about my being able to complete the 8,150 miles in a short time. I look forward for other spyder riders to do the same trip.

I want everyone to know, I rode from Salt Lake city UT, to Eureka, CA to my home in Kissimmee, Fl over 4,000 miles by myself, I was NEVER ALONE, not only did Doc and Dave kept tabs on me several times a day, I had other calls from other great people just checking that I was OK, and you all know who you are.... My thanks, from my heart, to all and to those who tracked me and wished me well on this thread... Thanks for your support..
