    Default givi top case wiring

    God Morning Friends,

I need a little help wiring up my new GIVI e55 top case to the brake lights.

I have the LED lenses installed in the case, now I jst need to wire up the brake light to the rack.

    The givi instructions suck.

I have the back of my spyder off for ease of install of the rack, I can see the wire for the brake lights on the spyder. The wire to the mounting bracket has two wires, a black and a blue. Which wires should i tap into on the spyder?

    black to black,blue to orange

    or?

Black to black and color to color would be my approach. To be sure I'd check it with a ohm meter first. Be sure to post a picture when you are done. I am looking at a possible e55 myself. I just don't like the brackets and thinking about bolting the base plate to the sport rack directly like some people did on here (much cleaner looking).

ok it is black on black and the blue wire from the top case goes to the white wire on the brake lights.
Quick tip for anyone who may do this mod in the future, get posi-taps for the connection.

I am finishing up the same project but I have the ESI/Custom Dynamics LED brake light going into the triple play...so I have 3 wires.

You'll wanna go black to black...for the ground...go blue to orange.

Also, are you running the wire under the seat? This is the best place to get it under your bike without visible wires.

Oh, if you're interested, the LED brake lights are great...as is the triple play...

Most of us are putting this on the sport rack...if the corbin seat doesn't allow a sport rack, you might be SOL...however, Corbin might make their own (and expensive) options for ya...

I got a 46 or 47L Givi...really like it...just have to finish up the last step...

I am going to change my name to "master of stupid questions"...here goes. I bought the top give case. My Spyder also has the side cases already installed. It looks like the side brackets have to come off to install the top case.Sound right?..also there is a bolt on the side brackets that look like they take a special socket..Looks like a triangular shaped hole on top of the bolt head.Where do you get a socket to fit that?

Thanks bone crusher I will change the wire this weekend. This may explain why the led lbrake lite kit I got fro GIVI does not work all the time.

I ran the wire through one of the hole you have to drill in the tail piece for the bracket for the base plate.

I will try to get some photos this weekend also.

This should have come with the bags. As far as the brackets coming off to put on the top case. I don't know.

Will it fit with the Cordin seat? I think Sydergirl in the SF bay area has that set up.

I can not see the GIVI top case in my mirrors when I am on the spyder. I do have the ESI mirror extensions on.

As Al said, the tool came with the cases, and should have been delivered with the Spyder. Look in the front trunk, tool roll, and the saddlebags...or contact the party you bought the Spyder from.

If you have the removable saddlebag brackets, you have the BRP version of the Givi bags. The Givi topcase mount is not compatible, it works only with their own brackets. You may be able to modify it to fit, but I don't think anyone has, as yet. If you do not have the Spyder Sport Rack installed, Givi makes a separate topcase mount, the SR-770, that mounts through the tailpiece. You will probably still have to remove the racks to install it.

I have SR-770 topcase mount on mine. When I get the money for the BRP sidebags I will try to mount them and still use the SR-770 topcase mount. From what I can tell, it might be possible to use the BRP saddle bage kit with the SR-770 topcase mount and only have to change out two of the bolts with the SR-770 kit with two bolts that are longer.

My guess was that it would fit, too. I have considered adding one to Nancy's Spyder, which already has BRP bags. The steel tubing mount would be more of a struggle, and the SR770 looks better, IMO. When you re-fit the saddlebag racks, leave things loose until you attach the racks to the brackets, then tighten things down. Otherwise they may fight you.

BTW, if all else fails you could grind a tool for the racks from a piece of 1/2" rod or a half inch bolt. It just needs a triangle on the end to insert into the recess in the fastener, and a handle or wrench to turn it. They are 1/4-turn fasteners, similar to Dzuses.

Nope...no need to disconnect anything on the side to install the topcase...

Lemme know how it goes...I can always take pics of my setup for you...there is about 3 inches of wire you see from under the seat to the GIVI mount...other than that, all is hidden and it looks good.

I had mine wired into the brake light, NOT the Triple Play stalks I have with the BRP sidebags...meaning, the GIVI will not blink 3 times...it will just go on with the brake pedal pushed in...good enough...if I don't have the the 47L bag on, I just cap the contact and will likely just put the BRP soft bag on just to have something there...

Since I purchased my Spyder used from a private party that has no idea where or if he ever received the special tool,I am trying to locate one through the dealer who installed the side bags. Sport Tour did say the 770 top mount is what I need. Bone crusher, doesn't the side black panels have to come off to bolt the mounting brackets on? The side bag braces are in the way of removing the side panels, black on my red Spyder
Scotty,I have thought about grinding one to fit,but thought I would give it another chance going through the channels..I thought I read somewhere that the left side panel has to come off to change the battery also..If it does, its only a matter of time before I need to get in there anyway!

If you have the sport rack, you don't need to do anything to get the mount installed. I really recommend you install any Givi bag onto the sport rack (at least with the configuration that I have)...also, I have the monolock, not the monokey (I think it's called). The mount is plenty stable for our bike and the bags are a bit cheaper...you can take the lid off the sport rack and install the GIVI mount on this (firefly did this for me)...then all you have to do is put the backrest on the GIVI hard bag (if you want to) and install the light kit (also an extra but a good idea, IMHO)...wire it under the rack and under the seat to one of the medial brake/running lights....this light is an LED in my case as I swapped the stock for ESI's LED product...

I have an update. I have the 770 mount bolted on. I had to remove the side givi bag brackets. The dealer gave me the tool they had kept when they installed them.mmmmm,I wonder how many tools they have???...The template that was supplied did not really fit my brake light faring. The template was too short.. I marked and did one hole by the template, found out it was incorrect, then did one at a time..It does take two longer bolts on the side brackets..1/4 inch longer.. I got it most of the way together, and was bolting the top brackets to the side brackets, and found out they didn't tap threads in one of the holes. Sooooo off to home depot in the morning to get me a tap...This forum and all of you people have been such a big help!!!..I would like to thank you all....I will post pics when I get it done if I can figure out how!!

I was in the process of wiring my givi top case, and i had it working. Then my tailights and brake lights stopped working, the engine will not crank and it won't come out of reverse. I checked all of the fuses, found a 10 amp for turn signals blow, changed it,but still no tailights,no brake lights,no crank and won't come out of reverse.Any ideas?..All I did was tap into the white and black wire to connect my top box..I there something that overheats and then cools back down?,because I did have the lights on for a bit to check which wires to tap..

It now will start, but I now have a abs/vss fault with limp in mode scrolling across my cluster.
I went out a bit later, now there are no warning lights,no limp in mode, but still no tailights and brake lights..fuse 7 is good..I have three lights in back behind the seat..two small on both sides of the center stoplight..Is this factory or did someone add the center one?
I found a connector on right side by brake light switch.I can disconnect it and apply 12 volts and my rear lights wo
I finally gave up...drove it to the dealer in limp in
They only had it one day...my wiring job was correct, but when I replaced the fuse I blew,I put 1/2 of it in one location and the other spade in the location next to it....I never said I was smart!!!!...they found that and adjusted my parking brake at NO CHARGE!!!..AND I LOCKED MY SPYDER KEY UNDER THE SEAT WHILE I WAS TALKING TO THEM,AND HAD TO DRIVE 80 MILES ROUNDTRIP FOR MY SPARE..I THINK THEY FELT SORRY FOR ME.(I THINK I COULD STILL HEAR THEM LAUGHING AS I LEFT..

Well, if you are tripping a circuit that controls the brake lights, I do believe you will go into limp mode...I'm not sure if you are okay with one working, but if both go, I think you're SOL...good thing they figured out the problem.

On my bike, I have the triple play...so, I had to take the blue and black wires from the Givi and tap them into the black and I think it was orange brake light (before it got to the triple play). This allows the Givi light to go on with braking only...good enough...I could've tapped them into the stalk lights I have (with the sidebags), but I didn't want to deal with the hassle...having them go on with the brakes is good enough...the stalks flash three times and then remain on...

Oh, small glitch with the monolock hard bag...the inside top connection sits a little too deep and may not work when you use it...meaning, it sits in its groove and in my case is too far from the bottom connection...so, I had to put some electrical tape around the connection to keep it from sliding all the way down...I then taped the whole thing to the plastic to keep it in place...I then tried to bang and rattle the bag and the brake light still worked just fine...

Make sure your light connection is solid before you take it out. It appears that the contact from the mount to the bag is pretty good...the ones on the inside of the clam may not work as you want them to and you might need to fiddle with them a little...

You are exactly right on the switch position under the lid. I had the same trouble and I removed my switch from the groove and used the small felt sticky pads that you put on cabinet doors to quiet a slam noise. I cut them in half, and they fit perfect in the bottom of the slot, then re-installed my switch. I called and they said they had never heard of anyone having any problems with the switches.

Well, 2 out of 2 here...so, maybe they aren't interested in learning about their design flaw...argh!
