When i first looked at the add it was $4500.00
So i contacted the guy about it to make a long story short he told me the bike was now in olympia washington i asked how do i pay for it and grantty delivery he said an escrow account with "Elite freight shippers" ok i said. So now i check out the truck service hmmmm you can email them but yet no phone number so i told the seller charles i set it up and then the trucking company sent me a notice for payment it said click on here to pay i did and surprise nothing happened so then charles tells me to use western union and it says the payment would go to some guy in london why send money to london if the item is in the US? So he said he was in london cause he works 3 weeks out of the month as an engineer on an oil plat form. i told him i suspect something but i wanted to give him another chance. being i have relatives in washington i said give me the address and i will have somebody stop by and look at the bike. He said the bike was already boxed up? If you notice in the add the price went up $1000.00 he said he put the add in all the major cities. He sent me the vin number i have a friend checking it out. Iam not calling him a crook but somethings just don't add up for me. What do you think?
You can go ahead and call him a crook... Because that is exactly what he is. Very common ruse!

I do a lot on eBay and I have people call me from time to time asking to look at an auction and see if it is a scam.
To me they stick out like a sore thumb. But they get a lot of people to bite. This guy has probably sold this Spider several times already.

I was looking for a bushtec trailer a few weeks ago on craigslist. I found one in Ohio that seems too good be true. I also found the same listing in Colorado, Tennessee and Michigan. Same pictures, same details just a different location.
Love my

That is for s sure a scam.
One, i never do escrow accounts with unknowns and two i never do a western union transfers. Those are highly used methods for scammers. I would only do an escrow account using my bank, the bank won't release the money till the item has shipped with a verifiable shipper with all the required paper work, and i have received the time and verified it was as described. Then i can direct the bank to release the funds.

I had a similar issue a few months back when I was shopping around for a used one (and before I found Spyderlovers). This guy had a gray '08 for $5500 and the ad was on a motorcycle ad website in Iowa. When I emailed the guy he said that he spread his ad around several states and was actually in Seattle, included more pics in the email. Then I asked him why so cheap and his reply was "because he had some bills to pay" and that if I was interested to send him a deposit via paypal or Western Union to start the delivery and license process. I answered him back that I had a friend in the Seattle area that was willing to look at the Spyder (and my friend was actually thinking of buying it away from me ), but never answered back, so I guess caught his bluff.

You have protection from ebay...ebay tends to be very safe (always check on feedback too)...if something elsewhere looks too good to be true, assume it is.

Good call Roger, This scam keeps going around in various forms. I know a few people who have been sucked in and lost their $$ with no recourse afterwards.

That seems to be a good indicator if they want you to ship the money out of the us and use western union. Thank you pjp623

I've seen this kind of thing dozens of times. Easiest way to call their bluff is to tell them you have family near the city listed and you'll just have them stop by with CASH and pick the bike up. I mean-- who wouldn't want CASH?
When they tell you it's actually in some other city (and they WILL tell you this) -- tell them you have another relative there!
Spyder #1 - 2008 GS SM5 Premier Edition #1977. RIP after 80,000 miles.
Spyder #2 - 2012 RT SM5. Traded in after 24,000 miles.
Spyder #3 - 2015 F3 SM6. Put 13,000 miles on and sold it.
Spyder #4 - 2017 F3 SM6. Too good of a deal to pass up!
