I have finally gotten a (week)day off, and am going to go to Honda Suzuki of Jackson and hopefully bring home MY Spyder! NEW 2009 Phantom GS SM5!!!
I'm calling on all SpyderLovers to help me put together a "checklist" of sorts of the things that I need to inspect/make sure are done before I take 'er home!
Here is the info I have so far:
1.) See if the new DPS has been installed yet
2.) See if the extension tube from the cannister has been installed
What else and I missing?
Any input anyone has will be greatly appreciated!
TIA!
Maybe before you leave the dealer, you check the shock settings. I realize that it's not that difficult to change them yourself; but, there have been some members on here, like myself, that have messed up /broken the piece that you turn. And, I know someone is going to say that you should spray them (with some type of lubricant) so they don't break, which I and others have done. It's just a heads up, if you know the setting you want them at. Myself, I have them jacked all the way to the stiffest setting; I usually ride alone and weigh 175#.

Congrats and best of luck.
Don't know if you were a bike rider prior but if you were remember you don't have a seperate front brake anymore. When I picked mine up I almost forgot and nearly tapped a bike next to mine.

I believe you will love this machine.
Hello JMay,
I'm excited for you getting your new machine. What I want to mention to you is quite a few of us have lost our rear reflector/licenseplate light. Just uped and fell/vibrated off. Once I replaced this part, which costs approx. $50. I added some black electrical tape to make it more secure. It blends in very nicely with the flat black part. I replace this tape every few months. I just wanted you to be aware of this problem. Best of luck with your new ride and I know you will have a blast on it.
Here's the link to my rant that day.

on the bike purchase. If the dealer has had it around for awhile, they may not have adjusted the belt tension.

Be sure the dealer shows you how to properly check the oil and coolant, and goes over the operation and the features. Ask if any other updates were required, and if they were performed. Ask if the belt was retensioned to the new, lower spec. If the dealer agrees, have them go over the entire PDI, item by item, with you. Make sure you get both keys and their sheaths. Also make sure you get the correct license plate hardware...including the 3M Dual-Locks to attach the bottom of the plate. If there were any incentives such as merchandise certificates or extended warranties in effect, make sure you get them.
Once you get the Spyder, be careful on the way home. If you are not familiar with them, just getting out and jumping on the highway can be treacherous! I suggest some practice and familiarization in a parking lot, to get used to the features and the feel of it. There is a full skills course in the manual and on the included DVD. I highly recommend practicing that course before you hit the streets in earnest, to get used to the Spyder and it's handling.
Have fun!

This has been a long day coming... anytime you want to go for a ryde, let me know. I've been scouting the entire State of OH all summer long for good roads.
BTW, check your tire pressure off the lot...sometimes they forget to put enough air in....especially if it's been sitting on a showroom floor for a time.
