Default Scala Rider G4 in the Weather?

Many of you have been writing about how much you like the Scala Rider G4 comm system in several posts of late...

My concern is exposing these electronics to moisture and/or rain as they mount on the outside of the helmet... I feel they are a rather large investment to risk. What does your practical experience say about durability and how they hold up to occasional exposure? I know the specs say weather resistant, but I'm looking for real-world feedback here.

I had no problems with the G4 except figuring our how to make everything work that I want to work. I took it on a 6000 mile jaunt with IrishtotheMax this last spring and it worked and weathered fine.

    Default Q2

Never had any issues with rain. The only issue is radio reception isn't that great. I loose stations and I agree, trying to find another one while riding one handed might not be a good thing. My wife and I love being able to talk with each other on long rides.

Thanks for sharing your experience with how the G4 puts up with the rain and weather, I really appreciate it. It's sounding like a system worth the investment.

    Anyone else? Keep it coming!!

    Tim,

I had the Q2 and it was great until I was in a big storm and had left the charging plug open...water got in and fried the battery...

So, I got the G4...really like it more...it gets updates through your computer and it stores 6 radio stations. If you have an iphone, you connect the iphone to your GPS and GPS to the G4...do NOT connect your phone to the G4 or you are going to mess things up.

As far as radio, I connect via cord an ipod to the G4...this gives you the best sound volume. I think some here use pandora and/or the ipod function on the iphone, but direct connect produces significantly better sound as compare to bluetooth radio...

My wife and I purchased these before our tour last summer. We got caught in rain 3 times. Two of those we were absolutely drenched to the skin. The units did not fail, they worked flawlessly even during the downpours.

Same experience I have had. Nice florida rains come out of nowhere and really pour down. No issues with the G4, although I do remove it from the helmet when I get home and dry it and the mount off. No sense leaving it soaked overnight.

I can't get my G4 to work properly if I try to play music(Pandora) from the phone(Evo) connected through the Garmin(660). The phone part works but the music doesn't. If I connect the phone, using bluetooth, directly to the G4, then the music works fine but it interrupts the Garmin and it doesn't work. I think it is a function of bluetooth. Ideas???
