I really like my HD gopro, major improvments over the first gen one I had, I have not tried both, I think dave1 from SC has both,
I am existing right now, would give anything to live again. Fix my sci and you have everything I own.

I vote for GoPro. Got a great price on one from my dealer. I am struggling with finding a good place to mount it!

I have a Drift X170 but it isn't HD. I think it's more streamlined than the goPro and has a screen to view the video which is why I got it. Also has a rotating lens so you can orient the camera regardless of the mounting position. For less than $200, I can live without HD

The Contour format ( *.mov) isn't standard which makes it tough to edit.

A dark horse pops on the scene. I've never heard of the Drift camera Brian. This deserves some more investigation. Thanks

Class 4 works just fine with the HD Hero (gopro). I can't see how it could be any clearer.

I'm going to mount it on the mirror arms.

    It's smaller than 2 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" and has a field of vision of greater than 170 degrees?

I've owned both a vHoldR and a GoPro and I preferred the vHoldR for ease of use while riding.

I just took a look at the site and thought I mad a mistake by buying the gopro; that is until I saw that they want $299 for the waterproof case. I purchased the HD Hero (gopro) for $299 and it included the waterproof case and a bunch of different mounts. I'll give you that the vHoldR is easier to operate with only one button.

Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. Everyone could have a different reason why one is better than the other. In the end, neither one worked very well for me (how I wanted to use a camera while riding) and I sold them both. Many others have had one or the other and really liked them.

Just played with mine yesterday with the class 6. Night and day compared to my buddies that was using a class 4. Could see the reflection in my saddle bag as if was a mirror!

Okay, okay....where can I pick up a class 6, locally? I know you live around Latham and I live in Syracuse; so, if you purchased at a local camera shop, I can check the locals here. If you purchased at a chain store, which one?

    Thanks

As I understand it, the Class system is a rating for the SD/SDHC card. These cards can be purchased at store that sells cameras/chips. The higher the Class rating, the better the chip "captures" the image. There are Class 10 chips available now. Available on the Internet if you can't find them locally.

Picked up a Kingston 32gb on EBAY and had it the next day for $55. But I bought a 8GB at Best Buy for $75. But this way I got a lot of record time!

I have the camera wih me all the time. Yes. and record a lot of stuff.
I have ContourHD 1080p Full HD.
I have ALL the accessories for it. an extra battery and two 8 GB Micro Memory cards.
I have used my friends GoPro HD.

I mount the camera on my Nolan Helmet for riding on Spyder and mount it on my bicycle helmet for my cycling trips.
I'm into cycling , cycle in the reserves and trails and also city cycling .
recently i did the 42 mile Newyork city ride and recorded it, it was great.
I'm a licensed Pricate Pilot, I fly ( forfun )every weekend , I record every flight of mine.
I'm also into radio controlled planes , I mount it on the planes.
I'm into camping and trekking, I find vholdR easy to record while trekking.
    I record while roller skating.
I'm a scout master in Boy Scouts and record most of our outdoor trips.

Over the weekends and evenings, I teach (free) Robotics to kids. I have the camera around my neck on a lanyard and record most of the time.

I literally live with the camera in my pocket. I even record as I walk in Newyork.

ContourHD records in .mov format , which I find easier to play in Apple Quicktime software.
ContourHD also gives Easy Edit Software to manage the videos.
I also use Apple Software to edit.

I'm hearing about Drift Hd170 for the first time, I will check it out in B&H today and write my views here .

Choosing a camera is ultimately a personal choice of ease of use, where you want to mount it, how often you want to use it and stuff like batteries and chargers.

    Cheers

Wow Cool you've got a lot of experience and knowledge about the action camera!

I, too, use a Mac (I'll never go back to Windoze) and this will be critical in my choice for a camera. How critical is the amount of megapixel for the action cam?

I'm really glad you wrote in for a subject that just doesn't get that much exposure on any of the Spyder forums and really should. After all, how many of us have been on the rYde and said to ourselves I wish I had a picture of this or that?

Keep us up-to-date please and if you have any video you wish to share I for one would enjoy seeing them. Thanks.
