    Default Ohio>Pacific Coast>Ohio

I thought I'd start a new thread and relay our progress to you.
We left Akron, OH on Monday 7/19 and spent the night in Ludington, MI. Then took the Ferry (SS Badger) to Manatowoc, WI and then drove to Chipawa Falls, WI. Today (Wed) we Made it to Grand Forks, ND.
No mechanical issues (knock on wood). Parking brake fix is holding up well.
Saw two Spyders heading East, near Grand Rapids, WI. Waved.
We need a special Spyder Wave and Handshake. Jumping up and down and waving frantically doesn't look cool.

    That's it for now

    Default My Travels, continued.

Well, we rode from Grand Forks, ND to Glasgow, MT. We hit quite a bit of rain and had quite a difficult time. The road was designed so that there was a pool of water in the center. At 70 mph I hit that water and hydroplaned all over the road. With the water in the center of the road I could not avoid it. Either one of the front wheels or the rear wheel was hydroplaning. I had to keep my speed below 50mph and sometimes as low as 35mph. The speed limit was 70mph so cars were flying by me at that speed. I was afraid someone was going to plow into the back of me. Visibility was nil.
I was totally exhausted (and soaked) by the time we ran out of the rain near Wolf Point, MT. NOT MUCH FUN.
Did not see any Spyders today.
We should make East Glacier by this afternoon. And it should be fairly dry.

We plan on hitting US-101 in Olympia, WA and heading South on the Pacific Coast Highway. We'll turn East a little South of San Francisco.

    Default More Travels

Pretty much uneventful day today. We made it to St. Mary's at the East entrance to Glacier, NP. Only a little drizzle in spots. Temp was 65 or so all the way. We are staying at the Duck Lake Lodge tonight and will enter the Park tomorrow.
I posted a few pics, so far.

Went through Glacier National Park today. Went at a leisurely pace and took a bunch of pics, some of which are posted here. Headed to Seattle tomorrow.
Saw a silver Spyder waiting in line to get into the Park thru the West Entrance.

A friend gave us a 220 mi trip around Mt. Rainier. The weather was no clouds and temps between 75 and 85 degrees. The views were spectacular.
    No Spyders today.

Well, we are in Manteca, CA now. I tried to meet up with SpyderGirl but things didn't work out. Our trip down Highway-1 was great. The redwood forest was lots of fun. I am going to get an oil change in Lodi tomorrow and then we are headed back East.

    Default My trip, continued

Met up with another Spyder on Highway-1. It was yellow, Driven by Dee who was celebrating her 36th wedding anniversary and had a big cardboard sign strapped to the rear of her RS. She doesn't belong to SpyderLovers but I clewed her and her husband it. He was riding a 3-cylinder Triumph. We chatted for awhile thus losing my riding companions for the rest of the day. They just don't understand Spyder Lovers.

    Default My travels, concluded.

We made it back to Ohio in good shape. I had an oil change in Lodi, CA and they found that my rear brake pads were in need of replacement. I guess 17,500 mi ain't too bad especially consider that I was pulling a trailer for 5000 of those miles.
We took CA-88 over the Sierras. I got tapped for speeding by CHP but they only gave me a warning and told me to get my mirrors cleaned because he was "behind me for a long time". We took NV-50, the "Lonliest Road in America" across Nevada to Delta, Utah. Then to Eagle, Colorado.
The trip home was pretty uneventful. Ran into rain east of Vail Pass. The next day was dry as was the rest of the trip.
I got a P0031 fault code which the manual says is a faulty O2 sensor circuit. I let it go because everything seemed to run OK. I'll let the dealer sort it out at my next scheduled maintenance.
I have been on the road since the odometer read 3000mi; it now reads over 17,000. I have not had any scheduled maintenance since the 600mi one. I have had the oil changed every 3000 miles.
