    Default Home Again..Fun was had

Wife and I got home yesterday from our escapade across the states. We started out on May 16th, headed SW thru CO,TN,to SC, then up to Upper Michigan. Stayed there and extra week when I found out about a class reunion. Then we left there the morning of the 4th of July across the northern states.

I main reason for htis post is that the Spyder preformed as it was intended..flawlessly. My wife drove it the whole way with our little black pup Kiddo strapped to the passenger seat behind her. I had more trouble with my Honda ST1100 (well known for its reliability) than she did with her Spyder. We turned over 20K miles somewhere in Montana on the way back. Its an 08, PE200. We had all the updates done and had the DPS replaced when the steering got funny. The Spyder used almost a quart of oil during the trip.

Due to sore butts, both will be parked for a few days, at least.

Sounds like a great time! Sorry to hear about your ST1100 issues. No matter what you ride it's part of the adventure.

I rode a 1971 Honda 750 back in the day. Still one of the most reliable machines ever put on 2 wheels.

The transmission started giving me trouble on my return trip to San Diego. I had hoped to limp it into San Francisco. It was shifting funny. At first I convinced myself it was just me imagining things. But that fantasy evaporated when I lost 5th gear.

I lost 4th several miles later. Traffic got heavier and heavier as I approached San Francisco forcing me to shift more than I wanted to. My triumphant and glorious crossing of the Golden GateBridge was in peril!

Eventually I lost every gear and had to pull over just north of the Bridge. Traffic was backed up for quite some distance and not 1 person (cage or MC) even attempted to give me a hand. Ah! To have had a cell phone!

It is one of the few parts of that trip that I still remember vividly.

Thanks for the pics,Scotty!! We enjoyed the visit also and hope to repeat it some day.

Fuel pump shut off valve on the ST needed bypassing in Grand Rapids,MN.

Then....around 50 miles from home, the fuel pump froze up because of the heat(it was over 90 all the way from Spokane to Seattle..250 miles) and I coasted off the interstate on an exit ramp. Sat for a few minutes, the pump cooled off enough to get it started. I made it to a gas station and filled up. The new gas cooled off the pump and it worked fine the rest of the way home.

I'm now trying to decide on what to do next..new fuel pump is very expensive. Or..maybe just drive it in cool weather?

Excellent write up, with pics, ta boot. Looks like you all had a great trip. I hope some day to do something like this with my wife, absent a dog. Her poodle is 21 years old (human years). She said when he passes that will be the last one for us.
I'm glad your home safe, and thank you for your pics and the diary of your trip.
