Yeah-- those seemed really versatile... but some of the other units like the Escort and the Valentine 1 were rated and tested better. The Escort 8500 x50 is well liked by bikers and they say it can handle the vibrations really well.

They have various interfaces that can hook up to most kinds of detectors. Check on the www.pashnit.com site--- I think they list a few different interfaces-- and perhaps one that is more 'generic' so you can make it work with other brands.

9 miles over is the standard in most states. However, it's up to the individual officer as to wheather a citation is issued. Radar detectors/jammers are also illeagle on military installations. Of course you'd be dumb to speed on a base anyway. Virginia is about the toughest state I've seen on fines for detectors and jammers. By the way, they have finally raised their speed on I95 to 70 mph, however, pay attention because it changes rapidly in different places. In NC you can normally run 80 mph on most interstates without to much trouble, except on 95 from Kenly to Dunn and through Lumberton. I run 95 almost daily and see few to no SHP troopers.

I have an Escort 8500 on my bike and it works OK.
I have Valintine Ones in my cars and they are far better. (I mean WAY better) I could not justify the cost for the bike so I went with the 8500.

One thing I will tell you all---- ALWAYS fight your ticket --- even from out of state you can get it lowered to a fine only 99% of the time with a deferral. All they really want is money. Pay a bit more in fines, but you get the points removed.

Know the laws of the state you get the ticket in. My gf decided to contest (or whatever the term is) her speeding ticket from Houston, Tx. A police officer from Houston (not the one who issued the ticket) gave her some bad info. At the time, you needed to appear in person to contest the ticket. She ended up trying to do it by mail based on bad info. The end result, she had a warrant issued for her arrest the next time they found her in Texas. I said that's fine; we won't go to Texas again. Instead she got her uncle (an attorney here in NYS) who had to hire an attorney in Texas. So, instead of paying the initial fine which was between $100-$150 (I can't remember exactly), she paid between $500-$600.
She must have been in that 1% you didn't mention.

You certainly should research any state you get a ticket in. Texas does not allow what is called 'Trial by Declaration' - so yes - if it actually goes to court you have to show up to fight it. You can plead not guilty in any state by signing the ticket and checking the appropriate box and mailing it in by the specified date. They will then set a court date and possibly a pre-trial date. Many times you can 'attend' the pre-trial by phone and many (if not most) will just offer up a deferral. They don't want to go to court - they just want the money as quick and easy as possible.
But you do always need to plan on going to court if need be. I recently got a deferral and it was much easier than I thought - but I had done tons of research, joined the NMA, downloaded various E-books, etc.
This site has good info - and if you become a member and then get a ticket and fight it and do not win - THEY will pay for your ticket:

Any person who receives a speeding ticket while they are a member of the NMA, fights it in court, and loses, will have that ticket paid for by us!

A bit off-topic.

When I had the Spyder GS, I mounted the V1 off center but still behind the windshield. No problems in picking up the signals from behind you. However, if you center-mounted it, I would see that as a potential problem regarding the rear signals.
Edit... now that I think about it, I have the same V1 mounted in the center of my T-Bird's bars and have no problems picking up the rear signals.

That's why I am never the first one in the pack .... put a rabbit about 1/4 mi. out front and run a decent dector will negate most speed traps. Keeping a sharp eye out will also help since cops needs to be within visual distance to aim the device. Usually I can pick them out 2-5 seconds before my detector went off. I have never gotten a ticket following these simple rules.

The only times I've been pulled over with detection on was when I was first over a hill into a trap where they were using POP (instant on) radar.

You're humble opinion is wrong....
Trust me..If you activate your 1-3 second burst of radar energy and I'm not the lead car int the pack.. I WILL hear you....if, I'm within a mile of your radar gun..That's the whole purpose of having a radar detector. Now, if you are waiting for me..and only me.. Well I guess I'm screwed/caught.. However if you fire that radar gun at any other vehicle up ahead of me, and YOU will.... I will hear you..!! I will slow down..... So.. they are definitely not a waste of money.. they will pay for themselves... The exception.. if I'm the only vehicle on the road.... and you paint me with radar energy..I'm caught.... IMHO...Len
