Default Hey Speeders- What system you using?

Been thinking of getting a Radar Detector and possible Laser Jammer, and now really want them after seeing Doc's setup....

Anyone have good or bad experiences they want to share?

Currently considering Escort 8500 x50 detector and M27 Blinder Jammer-- with possible Cheetah interface.

And just so people are not confused--- Jamming Laser is legal in most states... very different than jamming radar--- which is against federal law.

Not that I'm THAT much of a speed demon, but coming back from Cuba we were hitting 80-85 much of the way and I'd just like to avoid getting nailed.

I suspect after the weekend activities everyone had a stronger wrist on the way home. Kinda like everyone leaving the parking lot after watching the races.

The system I use on the NYS thruway is a trooper sticker and a trooper card from my son-in-law who is a trooper. Works well; at least on the thruway.

None of these really work. In order for a detector to detect a radar, that radar must be on and activated. I never leave mine on, I only activate mine when I suspect a speeding vehicle and off once I have a confirmed reading (1 to 3 seconds). They are a waste of money IMHO.

I understand, but units like the Escort 8500 x50 can alert to radar activity from close to 9 miles away - including the POP usage you mention. The idea is to know when there's a cop in the area looking for speeders with a radar-- the unit will detect when they shoot at another vehicle miles ahead and give the rider a choice to slow down.

Laser is different and can only be detected when it's too late-- when they aim at your car--- which is where the jammer does it's job. Sends out pulses stronger than the laser gun thus not allowing a laser gun to read your speed. Gives you a chance to slow down and avoid a ticket.

Certainly nothing is fool-proof, but the added protection may be worth it to many. I find myself often 15-20 mph over the speed limit on the Spyder. Only got pulled over once so far--- and got off pretty easy with $115 fine and no points. Had I got the full ticket it would have been 3 points and my insurance would jump enough to buy this equipment.

I don't generally speed in the city - and my ticket was on a country road-- doing 74 in a 55-- which is typical for me on country roads. Slowing down isn't a good option---- for me......

No offense meant for law enforcement guys and gals--- I'm just not fond of 'speed traps'. Seems there should be better ways to utilize our men in blue. Up here in Michigan they push for more tickets to increase revenue. They don't like to use the word 'quota' --- but that's what it is.

    Ryde Safe!

    ----------------------

I decided on the Escort 8500 x50 unit..... still deciding on the laser setup.

I had a Fuzz Buster years ago that went off as the officer was writing the ticket. We both got a good laugh out of that. Well, he got a better laugh than I did.

These are mainly for use against the traps where a cop is sitting there clocking everyone-- just looking for a speeder and some $$$$. Gives you time to slow down. Another great option is you can load a known list of speed/red light cameras into your Garmin and it will alert you before you get to one.

Let me preface my comments by saying this doesn't apply to, drunk drivers, wild & reckless drivers or generally all around crazy people... or those that speed through school zones, etc.

With that said, most of us know, it is nearly impossible, when on the open highway to not to exceed the published speed limits. Admit it...many of the very guys & gals that get paid to enforce speed laws do the same. Not reckless driving, but 5-10-15mph over the speed limit. My God it would be exceedingly boring to run around at the speed limit all the time.... when on the open road.

LawDog 357 is dead nuts on with his statement "for radar to be detected it must be on" and he only has his on for 1-3 seconds. Well, 1-3 seconds is plenty long enough for most detectors to hear him. Unless LawDog is allowing numerous vehicles to pass him by and he is somehow waiting just for little ole me to zap, I will hear him...If he checks one vehicle up ahead of me... I WILL hear him. Now, I am aware he is there, and can take the appropriate action... (Slow Down).

If I'm on a long stretch of highway no other vehicles in sight... speeding... Well...DUH!!

It doesn't have to be a deadly game...but it is a game.. he's trying to catch me, that's his job, I respect him for that.... I'm trying to not get caught, that's my job. Again, not being reckless and stupid... but as most of us do... exceeding the published speed limits on the open road is commonplace, even by responsible sober people.

See you out there LawDog... It's a game we all play.... I have absolute respect for our Men & Women in Blue, just stating the facts...Ride safe..

If they are going to do the 'wait for little ole you' to zap-- they're most likely going to use a Laser gun nowadays--- which only takes around .3 seconds. Only defense against it is a Laser Jammer like the Blinder M27 (with Cheetah interface setup is what I would do). What it does is instantly detect when your vehicle is 'hit' with a laser-- and instantly sends back a stronger signal thus not allowing the laser gun to read any signal. I've seen it in action and it works.

    Default News from Spain...

"The most serious punishment of all goes to anyone convicted of attempting to thwart a speed camera with a laser or radar jamming device or a radar detector. This represents more points than is awarded for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and is equal to the number of points for an aggravated DUI."

Yup - many places starting to crack down on them. Here is info for the US:

    Are laser jammers legal?
Unlike radar jammers, which are illegal under federal law, and laws in many states, laser jammers are not regulated by federal law, and are specifically outlawed by only the following states and provinces:
    • California
    • Colorado
    • Illinois
    • Minnesota
    • Nebraska
    • Oklahoma
    • Ontario
    • South Carolina
    • Tennessee
    • Utah
    • Virginia
    • Washington, DC
In depth information regarding each state's jammer laws can be found at USA Laser Jammer Laws - Guys of LIDAR.

You should not get too secure and comfortable in other states though, for two reasons. First, a lot of cops simply are ignorant of the law. They know that radar jammers are illegal, and will ignorantly attempt to apply that law to laser jammers. Second, other officers may attempt to charge you with “Interfering With A Police Officer” or “Hindering An Investigation” or some other such nonsense criminal charge. Neither one are likely to hold up in court, because the judge knows better. But you’ve still wasted a lot of time and money fighting it, and possibly even spent a night in jail. So yes, there is a risk to be considered, even in states where they are legal.

If jammers are illegal in your state just remember this: So is speeding. Does that stop you from speeding?

Best defense agains LIDAR in Texas is court. Texas has thrown out the use of LIDAR, so if you are ticketed, talk to the prosecutor.

I find the best way to avoid tickets is to do what i do =
    ''Observe all speed limits'',.
If anybody believes that I'll sell you half interest on a bridge i own in Brooklyn. I've been lucky the last time i was stopped for speeding on a bike was was around 1972/73 on my CB750. Usually i scan ahead and if something doesn't look right i back off. I find that if I'm not pushing the speed envelope by too much i can enjoy the ride better, and not worry about getting stopped.

I have the rockymountain radar detector/jammer RMR-C435 and have had great success with it. I know it works as I was going down a street and there was a popo hiding. The radar went off so I slowed down and was going about 10 over the limit and he was staring at the gun then back at me and the gun an back at me. Then he aimed it down and did something but I was long gone and laughing at the look on his face to find out what was going on. Now i'm not saying it'll prevent all tickets but its paid for itself numerous times. Some guns have minor glitches so they think its a glitch and move on. The best thing(so it says) is that its legal as it doesn't send a signal back, from what I understand is the illegal part of a jammer.

Glad it's working for you... but just so others know... Rockey Mountain Radar is not a well respected company in the world of radar and laser equipment. Various lawsuits, bogus advertising, copyright infringements, etc. All of the top radar sites have warnings to stay away from Rockey products.......
