Default ESI up & out and Ultra touring windshield

I recently installed the ESI up and out mirror extensions. Their high quality and look great. My rear view has never been better. My local dealer thinks their top notch and said he wants to become a local supplier for ESI. Enough about that, I have just got a 23" Ultra touring windshield and with the, (up & out), I now have a fitment problem.
Has anyone run into this problem. How difficult is it to cut the windshield? Can it be heated with a heat gun and bent? Any input would be a great help.

It is definitely a known issue that the Up n Out Mirrors will not work with a stock Ultra Touring Shield. I believe that ESI even notes that somewhere on their site.

As for cutting it, many here have modified shields so I am sure you will get some assistance.

    Good luck.

    That's a bummer.
I need something to improve the mirror functionality and I like the Up & Outs, but, I have the touring windshield.

Might have to wait and see what the new KewlMetal extensions look like.

I have cut and modified many shields and had no problem. Use a fine blade on jigsaw, moderate speed. Line area around cut with masking tape so that the jigsaw does not scratch it. Sand the cut with high speed orbital sander, about 400 grit. With a little care the surface will be as good as the factory cut. Some plastics will bend with a heat gun better than others, you just have to try and see. Too much heat is the problem, say take you time!

Some have said that if there are any marinas near you, they do a great job with this type of thing...I didn't check what state you're in, but something to think about if you're near boats...

Thanks everyone, for your input. Macsmonster, this will be the first. I follow what you've given here. I have a very fine toothed blade for my scroll saw and the 400 grits paper for the orbital sander.

Best of luck! I hope the windshield modification works out well for you. My wife also loves her Up and Outs.

Default ESI up & out and Ultra touring windshield

Thanks for everyones input. I held my breath, and did the cut and sand modification to the Ultra Touring Windshield today. First time trying to cut any plastic, that really mattered. Tell me what you think.

Looks good but do you need to cut more to get the top bolts in?

No, once I modified the bottom of both wings, it fit without having to modify the mounting holes. I was worried that doing a modification to the mounting holes may weaken the whole windshield.

It's OK if you want to send them back just give us a call and we can give you a credit for these right away..

It's not on our site what sheilds it does or does not work with as their are many we have never seen first hand and have no way of knowing all the combos out there.

However it's not on BRP's that their sheilds won"t work with our extensions ether.
