RT front shocks on the RS

Got a chance to ride my Spyder with the RT shocks on it as I must say it is a great improvement over stock. I'm not sure what the cost of the RT shocks are but my guess is they'll be much cheaper than any of the after market shocks and they work great.

I had Elka's on before I changed it to the RT shocks.
They are different, they have a different spring and different dampening for the heaver RT. I had to crank my Elka's up 7 turns to get it about the same as it was on my RS.

Yes, how much higher is anyone's guess at this point. I made what I have work but I may upgrade the spring at some point down the road.

On the RT you don't have to pull any panels to get the shocks off. Just jack it up and pull the bolts.

On the RS you have to pull the top panels and the foglight panels. It's a pretty easy mod and took me about an hour for all four shocks but I had two lifts to help.

The MSRP for two front shocks for the 2010 RT is $255.06. Spyder parts are readily available online with a 20 percent discount, and no shipping or sales tax. This brings the price for two shocks down to $204.05

Obviously, this is a lot less than the Elka shocks. At this price, I could afford to try the RT shocks on my 2009 GS. If I wasn't satisfied, I could then go for the Elka shocks.

This leaves the question of what to do with the rear shock open for now.

You need the whole shock with spring. The spring is heaver and the dampening is different.

I ordered two RT shocks for my 2009 GS, today. They don't come assembled. You have to order the five part numbers separately. The total cost delivered to my front door was $204.06 for the two shocks.

The infamous adjuster ring that breaks so easily is $7.26 after the discount. I thought about ordering a couple of extra ones, but it is the same part as the one for the 2009 GS. If I break one, I can take it from the "old shocks".
